It was ok just after you reinstalled Windows but came back soon after? After the adventures we had with hijackthis, I’d guess the spyware you never quite got rid of.

What other games have u tried ? Did u try flight sim 2002 ? You could probably test your graphics card with other graphic intense games before concluding what the problem really might be.

Bad memory on a video card is most likely to give you a scrambled image. In dramatic cases, i.e. when the memory problems affect large areas of offscreen memory, it can also result in the graphics hardware or driver locking up.

A slowdown of any kind, however, seems beyond any rational possibility in this context.

This issue is probably a driver issue or a mainboard issue of any kind (maybe also because of a bad driver). Busmastering and AGP rates are good pointers.

The other games would be F1 2002, F1 Challenge 99-02 and Sega Virtua Tennis (haven’t given FS2002 a try on this system). These games have no problems with the rendering of the graphics, but as I have mentioned earlier, I can notice that stutter in Virtu Tennis…I have tried either of the F1 games since the stutter returned, but earlier i.e. before the reinstall it was present in F1 as well.

The driver (for the AGP) is fine since lots of people have used it and reported no problems.

Just out of curiosity…what happens when you turn down the graphic features? Or the resolution? Does the problem still persist?

As a test, yesetrday I did change all the 3D settings to the following settings

Full scene anti aliasing to application preference
anisotropic filtering to application preference
texture preference to high performance
mipmap detail level to high performance
truform to application preference
wait for vertical sync: always off
smartshader: no effect
and AI: normal

As recommended at the flight sim forums, Antialiasing was unchecked from within FS2004. It did take that same time to render the textures when I cycled through different views (PS: it doesn’t always take that second or 2 to render the textures…it’s ocassional and this is irrespective of highest settings or lowest). Also, the framerates at Seattle airport were the same lousy ones i.e. between 14 and 17.  :?

Actually, I’m just going to try FS2004 with all settings turned down from within the game…I’ll post back in a bit about it…

with all the settings turned down from within FS2004, it worked fine. However with the initial cycling of the views (cockpit, virtual cockpit, tower and spot), when it reached tower view, it did take a fraction of a second to render the texture…never noticed it after that during my short flight (in which the plane caught fire and the front gear didn’t retract ). The jerk was still present.

I had made a small video of it earlier.

Sorry to here that about your video card Rahul….That is one nice piece hardware.  I know your frustrations.  I had some minor hickups with my x800 and after trying a few things its been smooth sailing.

I am sure you know about all of these steps….

1. check your power supply.
2. check you powere connector to video card.
3. Check that the card is running at the correct speeds.
4. Check if its your mobo.

PS> I had a bad mobo that gave me all kinds of grief, until I troubleshooted it out….Now, I have an asus….

I am sorry to here your having problems.  I am sure you’ll get to the bottom of it soon….ANd be playing FS 2004 at the max with tons of fps.

Hi Chris.

1) I have a 500w power supply and I’m sure there’s no problem with that.
2) I’m sure the power is being delivered fine to the video else it would have blown up by now :wink:
3) At one time I did think I found the solution to my problems when I discovered that in the BIOS the graphics aperture was set to 64 mb instead of 256 mb, but that didn’t help. The clock speed is ~500 so that’s not a problem either.
4) Is there some tool to diagnose the entire mobo?

I’ve diagnosed the RAM entirely using 2 memory testing tools…it found no errors. However, I used to notice an error message when trying to run some files off certain cd’s

Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed.

First, I thought the RAM was at fault, but those tests proved me wrong. Even the dvd writer couldn’t be blamed since I could copy the entire folder in which that file resided without problems and then run it off the harddisk drive.

The reason why I ran these diagnostics was that the drive would not work when I used the SATA cable with the power thing included. It worked fine if I used a regular SATA cable and the 4 pin molex power connector. I tried 2 of the cables and with both of them the drive was not recognised, so I contacted western digital and informed them that the drive has a fault.

I might just try installing FS2004 to another drive soon and see if that corrects the problem. I also contacted MS yesterday and they’ve sent me a long list of recommendations.

Do you have your OS on the raptor?  I ran into some problems with my raptors. 

I found to be most stable is to have the OS on a separate IEEE cable and your games on the raptors.

But, before I installed any of my games on my raptors I first tried them on my drive connected by IEEE cables instead of SATA.

Someone once told me that OS were more stable under IEEE connections over SATA

So I would definitely try a fresh install of your OS on a regular 7,200 RPM drive connected through IEE.

Then you’ll be able to rule out you drive.  The next thing will be your MOBO.

I don’t know any one utility that will run a check on your entire mobo…I’ve used SIS the trial version.

Only thing right now there free version won’t check 64- bit and hyper threading, so I haven’t installed it.

Just to give you some inspiration…After all this trouble my computer has been up solid over clock over 200 MHz.

The only problem I had is a neon tube going out… I haven’t troubled shooted that yet…But, I am sure it’s not my power supply (I changed it 3 times… )

The only IEEE drive I have is the 80 gb sony giga vault drive. I’ll try FS2004 on both drives i.e. my IDE and gigavault drive and see if that solves the problem.

I thought the same way as you once.  It would make sence to us to have the OS installed on the Raptors to give you a shorter install time in your OS. 

But, for me there are many reasons why not to have the OS installed on the Raptors.

1. If one of my drives failed in my Raid I would loose my OS and all my files.

2.  Someone told me this…I haven’t researched it, but for me its made sence to have a my main hard drive on IEEE (to free up SATA for other things like such as RAID’s.)

3.  Having your SATA ports open you can install mutile SATA and Raid’s

The purpose of my RAID and 10,000RPM Raptors:

1. Play video games (they are installed on my Raptors.)
2. video editing (there is about 70 gigs free.)  In Raid 0 it performs alot faster…
3.other various programs that I would want to load fast.

I don’t know about you but all I need to load up my OS once a day and it takes all about 7 seconds max.  :D

BTW- I am playing Counter-Strike Source and HL-2 getting awesome FPS with everything maxed out on Anti-Aliaing and Anisotropic Filtering.

With my x800 pro I am getting up 160 fps and a average of about 80-90 in extreme gameplay.

I did overclock my CPU to your stock speeds (3500+ @2.2 GHz)  This puppy is flying high.

My Memory is what made it so easy, oh yeah and the awesome motherboad.

Asus K8N-E Deluxe is a little on expensive side for the mainstream market…But, do we use mainstream parts in a gaming machine.

My Memory is 1 gig of Hyper X kingston….Fast super fast 533Mhz with a very low latency.

My 2- Western Digital Raptors 10,000rpm 37.5 gigs stipped at raid zero are at a combined weght of 74 gigs.

I use my OS on a 120 gig 7,200 RPM Western Digital…(Hooked up through IEEE :wink: )  Has been rock solid…And has been a great staple for my rig…I think I would have been very frustrated trying to set up a OS on my Raid or even one Raptor..

PSU- is a total of 500 watts.  I finally went with a Ultra X connect…THis is one of the coolest psu’s I ever seen…Its one of the first module power supply to set foot in the mainstream market…

Sound: Audigy of Course.

Optical Drive: Had to be faithful to sony on this one.  DRU-710A Double Layer 16x

And to keep my temps down: 2 -120mm antec fans.  One in the front for intake and one in the rear for exhaust.

For CPU I used a Thermtake with adjustable speed controler up front.  These are great for keeping your temps down during overclocking…Also with the adjustable fan control you don’t have to have your computer room sound like a jet engine.

Last but not least for the casing I used a antec Lan boy case….Great case for $70 bucks….I’ve had much luck with prior Antec cases and always like the way this one looked so I picked one up.

It has a see thru window to monitor :wink: all my hardware….

I also did up the wire managment all nice and hope to post some pics as soon as I get a hold of a nice digi camera…

I am sick of the quiality of mine…
