Im planning on getting a second TR as a backup since the TR series is discontinued by Sony. I can’t afford such a high price laptop so I was thinking of going refurbished. Do you guys have any good/ bad experiences with refurbished TR’s?

not refurbished TR, but refurbished HP/Compaq laptop…my friend ordered one from ecost and it’s optical drive did not function.

hmm same thing… i had a refurb. Dell Inspiron off of eBay and everything worked fine except that the BIOS was in fact that of a Dell Latitude… no other significant problem though. If you gonna do it do it through eBay, get it through a trusted seller and read the fine print about the item condition.  At least you’ll know exactly what may be wrong with it and what you could do about it unlike having an experience like rahuls friend :? .

I also have a friend who purchased a refurbished laptop (Toshiba) and the screen was dead within a week.  But I’m sure thats not the normal.

Usually, stores offer a 90 day warranty for refurb products. The only problem my friend had was that he had to leave for India within a week’s time of receipt and he wanted to take that laptop for his father (in India) so he didn’t have a choice and couldn’t give it back for repair/replacement.
