After reading a lot of posts, I’m seriously considering getting an x505. I have to travel 1.5 hours on public transport + extra walking and this seems to be lightest laptop around. Oh, and this baby is gorgeous
However, I would like to view it in person and play around with it. Does anybody know a store in the Los Angeles area that would have teh x505 in stock?
It seems that Fry’s has them on display. I’ve never been to a Fry’s but I guess you could call before you make the drive out to one.
Edit: If you have any specific questions on the x505 that wasn’t provided, feel free to PM or E-mail me.
Edit 2: If you do find one in stock, ask them to remove it from the display and use it for a few minutes on a desk or table, it’s the only way to really get a feel for it.
[quote author=“DayWalker”]it was on sale for 2599$ at frys
the S260 was 2100$ and they told that they’ve sold over 50 in a day.
It is matter of prefernce. I am not arguing with you again. It is a preference, I am just stating that majority of people PREFER a laptop with a CD.
I never doubted that. It’s still a $500 hike and has less features. This is my second notebook without an optical drive, I can honestly say, I don’t miss it. I’m sure other users would. I never claimed the x505 to be a notebook for everyone, in fact, if you read my review I tell people to think long and hard because it is not for everyone.
yeah, it is a boat anchor in a sense. Only if they had the cd, just the cd. They’ve made a killer laptop for everyone and everyone will be paying 3500 easily for it. I opted out for the U750P. I friend brough over the U50… what a piece of shit. I felt very uncomfortable using the H6315 as my cell even with a bluetooth handset for 2 days, this is even bigger piece of shit. 2 inches on the long side, one on the short. I dont understand, why they didnt make it smaller and slimmer, They could’ve. I examined the pictures on the website again, there are some really stupid ideas…

Sorry, i’ve read your post like 20 times…I know it’s 5am here and I have had no sleep…so…
1. Even with a CD I doubt everyone will be willing to spend $3,500, but ok. I still don’t understand your need for an internal optical, but ok.
2. The U50 is nearly the U750P…what makes one that much better then the other that justfies buying one over the other? You said the u50 is a POS but your considering the U750…
3. What website are you talking about, HP or Sony’s? You start talking about an iPaq…
Eric,
I am saying if your x505 had a 9.5mm cdrom stuffed somehow in it, I will even be tempted to buy it because of the weight, size, etc. The keyboard is another story.
My statement is that if it had the CD/DVD-rom, it would be easily sellable for 3500$.
It is convinience. People hate carrying around drives… I had a VX505
2) I was considering the U750P, and asked a friend to come over so I Can check his U50. I know they are the same, thats why I asked. I didnt like it so I will pass on the U750 as well
3) I stated that the H6315 is smaller than the U50, and in my mind the H6315 is too big to be carried around, so the analogy was that the U50 is too bulky. I just gave it as a reference.

Gotcha….makes sense now (about your friend) cause I was like 2 mins ago you were considering buying one…lol.
Isnt the 6315 a phone/pda? You cant compare that to a fully blown XP machine, you gotta give something to the fact that the U runs XP…
Do you know a Frys in the Los Angeles precinct that would has it currently in stock? Also, is the special still on? Makes it even more affordable!
Oh I can set up wireless at home, so the ethernet jack is not needed. However, is it any good for editing photos/movies? Or is it too slow to perform such functions? Lastly….the keyboard, is it easy to type on? The position looks wierd…and I’m not use to a pointer thing but I think I’ll have to won’t I?
I initially wanted the TR5AP but has been advised not the TR :? since it’s been superceded by the T series (ugly looking things), and the S series is just too heavy. I need something I can carry around that won’t give me red markings on my shoulders, being a university student with a notebook and textbooks on top of loose paper, folders etc I need something light!
I find it (as well as many reviewers) very easy to type on, almost too intuitve. Daywalker disagrees.
I have not used my ethernet cable, I only go WiFi, so, yes its possible.
Editing photos, I don’t see a problem. Serious video editing…well, it’s limited by 3 things…512 RAM, 1GHz Proc, and 4,200rpm HD. None of these are qualities one would look for in video editing.
If your doing basic editing or only once in a while, I guess it can’t hurt. If you were considering a TR this is on par with it.
(don’t feel bad, I also think the T is semi-ugly)....and the S is too big and heavy (sorry groovy).
I am a student and understand exactly what you mean.
As for Fry’s in LA, I have no idea, but I would just call them, i’m sure they will tell you over the phone if they have them on display.
