I’m sure many of you have heard they are making a movie based on the Doom games… well at least I thought it was supose to be based on the Doom games but after reading the following article…

I think they decided to just use the name. So far they already messed up the entire story of Doom… the demons are no longer from Hell, they are just people who were mutated by a super-virus.

Oh but thats not all they really went and did some more killing of Doom, the space marines are now SWAT team like members.

And I’m still trying to figure out why they would send a wheel chair bound man into a live combat zone. That just seems really dumb unless they are trying to get him killed.

Oh and we all know what BFG in BFG-9000 means, but in the movie they appear to be renaming it the Bio Force Gun.

Yeah these are only a few screw ups but already the movie is looking to be another Super Mario Bros. But unlike Super Mario Bros. which was able to keep some of the very basic story elements (Mario and Luigi fought Koopa) it seems the people making the Doom movie thought it would be cooler to replace demons from Hell with super mutated humans. Guess that means they won’t be using the teleportation experiment going wrong story either, which pretty much means its not even going to be Doom.

Normally I don’t say something is going to be bad until it is released but from seeing this I can say this movie is going to be down right horrible.

It’s really sad when Hollywood can be handed some decent movie material (demons spewing from Hell is already the making of a great horror movie) and completly chop it up and turn it into something utterly disgusting.

Why not move it to a tropical island? It could be the Far Cry movie. I guess Hell-spawned demons just don’t have the pathos that the Doom mythos requires.

What the hell? It sounds like they’re making a Resident-Evil knockoff with all of those changes, though I wasn’t expecting too much from a flick based on Doom of all properties in the first place.  :x

Well considering if they just used the Doom 3 material they would have had plenty of material to make a great horror movie.  But instead they decided to just use the name and, as you said, rip of Resident Evil.

Hardly surprising. due to the lack of creativity and intelligence generally demonstrated by hollywood. Hell, if it weren’t for 2001 and Starwars they’d still be putting tailfins on interstellar craft.

Thank God for the indies and a few gems that escape the drudges.
