My primary interest is in a small light phone with bluetooth and it seems to do both well. Besides, it’s sexy.
hey dana,
does your sexy thing handle incoming calling id?
i mean the front display shows the picture of the person whos calling…
Hi Jimmy
I don’t know if the picture displays but the caller ID shows in the outside display. The ID text window would cover much of the image.
The sound is awesome. Louder than you’ll ever need, clear and the speakerphone function is as good as any speakerphone I’ve ever used.
The battery life seems to be on the low side compared to larger phones. On the up side it can be charged with most USB<>mini-USB data cables. Tethering to a PC can be done via bluetooth or USB.
So far my only complaints about the phone center on the carrier. Serious tech support is best found in user forums. Carrier logos and unavailable or masked system level functions are an irritation. I know they do this to keep busy idiots from breaking the phone, but this busy idiot likes see those settings. Cingular wants users to use their connection manager software on PCs, which is unstable and slow. It was a pain finding the info to configure WinXP…which is not available from Cingular.
[quote author=“Sony Vaio”]if you happen to test if picture of incoming caller shows on the display (outside) i would be very grateful for this information…
havent found the razr v3 in the shops yet, might buy it from amazon
greetz, jimmy
ps: had the chance to test the new nokia communicator 9500 today, absolutely awesome
Lot’s of wonderful toys out there, Jimmy. I try to restrain myself, sometimes, with limited results…
I think some EU carriers handle the V3 and, depending on plan, some of the prices seem good.
The stock Moto V3 comes in a pretty metal box with a bunch of accessories and a CD. The Cingular variant comes in a cardboard box with a charger. I really don’t know what their lamer marketing people were thinking.
Currently Cingular phones are unlocked, but there’s a rumor that this is changing.

My Razr does, it’s quite cool to see without having to open the phone up. Bengalboy from HoFo has a good pic of it up, saves me from having someone call me to take a pic.

I’ve watched succesive generations of phones and while all the sexy features appeal to the techno-junkie in me, the truth is that I really only use a cellphone for two things. I talk on the phone and I use the phone via bluetooth to connect my TR to the internet.
The T68i made me really appreciate a small, light phone. Being unimpressed with the current crop of phones, I was actully contemplating trying to find an end-stock T68i or refurbishing mine until I saw the V3.
So you don’t like the Ericsson t637? A friend in my math class has it and I was fooling around with it. It is a nice phone that feels VERY solid IMO and since it supports EDGE with AT&T you can use the Bluetooth with almost DSL speeds… not bad. I’d get it but alas, I am forever stuck with Verizon.

Forever? There must be some way to get out of that contract?
Well my cell phone is from my mom and she is already ready to take it away at all times… “when I was a kid…we were lucky to use the landline… ” blah blah blah.
So she doesnt have the patience for my gadget aspirations it sucks but at least i have a cell phone…
I heard on another forum that in Japan you can actually rent cell phones in Japan.. how awesome is that?? I am gonna be getting an NTT DoCoMo SH506iC or P506iC as both have DoCoMo’s iMode FeLiCia (allows you to charge money online to the phones account and then with a simple swipe of the phone across a register, you have paid for something) . So basically it would be easy for my mom to provide me with money while I’m over there by using her debit and charging money to it. Also the phones have memory card compatibility so I can put my music on them which I always want. Of course it will depend on how much I like the phone in person… pictures only show so much
[quote author=“linc”]i have the se t637 . are you sure it supports edge?
O your right… I thought EDGE was compatible with all the new AT&T phones… that sucks. Well… if it’s any consolation T-Mobile is supposed to be implementing BREW… supposedly even faster but thats what the guys that work there told me and they aren’t very smart… Change their minds everytime i go in.

EDGE is an enhanced version of GPRS. BREW is Qualcomm’s Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless for running BREW-compiled applications. It’s basically a J2ME competitor and has nothing to do with data speed.
