My best friend’s father has a TR (yes I convinced him to get one) and he bought a Sony extended battery. He only got 4 hours of life from it, Sony gave him another one. This one gets 5 hours of life.

When i say 5 hours i mean, 5 hours doing nothing with the machine, brightness on lowest, CD disabled, no wifi, etc…

Is that normal?

My contention is it must be the system, i doubt 2 batteries (new ones) would be bad. He gets 4 hours out of the stock battery…any ideas?

i get about 6.5 hours with wifi and bt on(optical drive and memory stick are off and lcd on setting 4).

Thanks, i thought that would be about right…i’ll let him know its a problem…i guess he needs to RMA another battery…maybe the TR.

Both of his were new too…one bought from SonyStyle, the other RMAd from Sony.

just like the regular gives no where close to 7 hrs (3.5 for me), the extended gives no where close to 11 (5.5 to 6 on avg.).

On a separate note,

Is it just me, or does the TR5 run hotter with the extended battery?

I’ve recently switched from the standard battery to the extended one, and the left underside of my TR5 (the whole stretch from the VGA port to the wireless LAN switch) gets unbearably hot.

Any thoughts?

how’s the job market in UK/EU lately, since the dollar started sinking?

I had an offer from BT like 13 months ago for 105K GBP, but I rejected, since I already started my business in the US? Another major reason for rejecting was that BT wasn’t doing so well at the time…

I don’t want to be a prophet, but with this economy, this debt baloon, this unemployment/reject ratio ... US gonna start sinking at some point.

Majority of my work is with the hospitality industry. They are like a very very delicate indicator, when things start to worsen…

Of course, right now they are booming since EU citizens are coming over to the US, for Xmas and to do some shopping, primaraly because of the weak dollar, but lets face it, with these procedeures, fingerprinting, shaving a mop up your ass when you pass customs ... It wont be a repetative experience for most of them…

the GBR has never been stronger than what it is at the moment. The economy is booming, and plenty of employment around here. I mean most of my friends have got recruited with campus jobs, which tho promised by most universities they hardly come by in this country. But this time the scene is very bright and jobs are plentiful. I believe its got something to do with the BUILLION buffer that the UK government has always been able to maintain over other european markets. Gold is the safest investment, the UK treasury is full of it, which is also a widely advertised fact. Which is why the consumer confidence is always high in british stocks.

American laws on trade have pissed off a lot of already skeptic countries like france and germany. Trade with europe scenario today bears a grim picture. Most of the laws as you have rightly said are based on post 9/11 security changes. Also i think things like unemployment are caused by large scale outsourcing to countries like India and China. I dont want to fuel things but its just a vague mention, so ill stop here.

Trust me, I live here.  There is a major shallow, false sense of security among us.  What blows my mind is that there will be many who are dumbfounded when it happens.  The UK is playing cards with a strong hand right now.
