The stupid spyware shit within the red rectangle. Have tried ad-aware se pro with latest updates but this junk just doesn’t go. Now I can’t read the review because it’s covering the text. I cant even close it.

You can try this software “Spybot - Search & Destroy”, I am using it, and it’s works well. I don’t know if it will remove your spyware but it worst the try.

if anything, you’l probably have to just go and dig in and find the dll or exe or what not to delete.  use “ hijackthis ” and get the log for it and post it if you need help.

If you haven’t already, boot into safe mode and run Adaware as well as Spybot. I would also suggest running the following: CWShredder, KazaaBegone (removes more than just Kazaa) and HijackThis. Be careful what you delete in HijackThis, however, as it will allow you to delete necessary files in addition to the junk. Good luck.

rhaul, make a clean install, make a ghost image an dont worry when something like that happands…. I suggest reinstall.. this crap goes too deep..

I do always make an image once I get windows installed with my choice of softwares, but it’s not practical to do a reinstall every 2 weeks (may be even earlier since spyware is a daily thing now…). Anyway’s I do as it is have to do a reinstall on this machine so that thing will automatically disappear…am just worried if it appears again and if I dont know by then how to get rid of it, I’ll be in deep trouble.  :(

Welcome to the WinBlows World. If it wasnt that most of the clueless “IT” guys around here will be jobless…. Install a SUSE and VMWARE, run windows under the linux and call it a day. You will fall in love… My TR hasnt been reinstalled since March 2004. It is dualboot, but I never boot in Windows, just no need to….

Of course, that’s notwithstanding that many people…

1) Need to Run windows natively for programs to boot
2) Don’t want to switch
3)don’t know how to change OSes

Of course, dualboot is always a good option. Try using coLinux, rather interesting app. lInux native on a windows shell.

VMWARE will allow them to boot Windows under Linux, an 11 year old can do it. If they pick up suse 9.2 with yeast they can install linux EASIER than installing Windows on the TRs.

My x-roomie is a big linux fan and decided to switch over to Linux from Windows. Since, he needed to run windows apps, he was forced to run windows from within Linux. But since windows ran so slowly from within linux, he finally had to switch over to windows and gave up using linux, and trust me he knows a lot about computers…he wasn’t some newbie to linux when he made the switch…

and do u expect me to run my games from windows (within linux)? I think. I would have wasted $465 which is what I paid for my graphics card!

This is what I call advise that is not very helpful.  No offense but before recommending he whipe out everything and install Linux you should really make sure Linux will work for what he needs.

Anyhow some advice.  First as it’s been mentioned just get spybot and ad-aware and get the spyware out.

Once that is done go and make a second account on your computer, and make it a restricted account (to change the status of an account go to START->Control Panel->User Accounts).  A restricted user can’t install software so using it for your day to day browsing will prevent spyware from installing on your system (since you won’t have permission to actually install anything).

When you need to install software or change system settings just log into your other account (which should be left at the administrator level).  This will also thwart 99% of viruses, trojans, and worms.

Second download and install firefox which is avalible here…

Firefox is a much more secure browser then Internet Explorer and won’t allow programs to install themselves without your knowlege.

Doing these two things will bring your security up to a very good level.  It also helps to prevent system corruption, I haven’t reinstalled Windows since for about a year now (which is how long I’ve had the computer) so I can honestly say it helps with a lot of stuff.

Valid suggestions or not, it’s like major surgery for a hangnail.

Just try Adaware and Spybot, Rahul, and see if it solves your problem.

I’ve found the pop-up blocker in IE, along with the other security updates in SP2, have kept my spyware to the level of tracking cookies.

If you must IE
use http://toolbar.yahoo.com/

it has a great anti spy tool..

otherwise just pop on firefox and don’t worry about spyware.

MegaManXcalibur, thanks for the suggestions…the creating the username thing is a very good advice, however I wont use it since I do a lot of downloading…would it be possible to allow the restricted user access to other drives so I can save my data there (and may be other folders on c drive?)...I dont think the spyware would install itself on other drives

I downloaded firefox yesterday as suggested by you…I found it slightly slower than IE though and it bugs me too much by reporting that it could not connect to a site (i.e. the connection timed out). However, no spyware problems as yet with it

dbs, I already have adware pro installed and tried Spybot as suggested by Julien…however that thing is still there (in IE i.e.) May be the people at Lavasoft are not yet aware of this particular spyware :?:

tmkt, I already have the google toolbar installed…that too hasn’t done much good for that spyware :(
