Yeah this is a hardware limitation. I have just tried Cenatek’s Ramdisk (Registered) and it also limits RAM disks to 100MB. Sad but true…

In fact, ARsoft´s RAMdisk is free and better than Cenatek´s 50 dolar soft.

In fact, better without any ram disks. More stability and speed. I gess this ram drive technology is a little out-dated.

Which version are you running?

I’m using version 1.9 Beta and using the AWE memory option allows for me to setup a 500MB RAM Disk. It works pretty well for me.

I was using version 1.7.100. However, I think I am giving up ram disks. My computer seems to run better without them. I also begun to realize that you must have a really large brodband in order to bebefit from the speed of ram disks, otherwise keeping you Internet cache stored will save more time.

And this version, at least, has a major failure, you can´t fix the ram disk’s letter. I have an external HD and when it is disconected the ram drisk “steals” its letter. So Explorer loses the path to internet temp. ARsoft’s ram disk has this feature working fine.

Actually, you can do it with Cenatek’s software but it’s quirky. If you choose to load and save the RAMDisk (where it writes the info before it shuts down and loads it back up at startup) then it will remember which drive you were using. I’ve written their support staff to try to make this more straightforward. Perhaps in version 2.0.

At any rate, if you’re happy with ARSoft’s program then you should just stick with it. 100MB should be enough for most browsing. The only danger is that if you try to download something that’s more than 100MB then it will fail unless you use a third party download manager.

It has made my computer unstable. Suddenly my internet stoped working and when I rebooted I got the worst message ever that said something like: Windows has just recovered from a extreme (or something like that) fault. I had it happening with my previous computer (Toshiba P25) and I am pretty sure its related to memory flaws.

when I sotoped using ram disks my whole computer started working better. I sugest you try deactivating you ram disks. See if you get any performance improvement like I did.

Well, it works for me. Using RAMDisks is not for everyone. You really should know what you’re doing and why you need to use it. Most people don’t need it and it may be more trouble for them. It’s not some miracle speed up for your system. It can lessen some wear and tear on your hard disk and make browsing a little bit faster.

I’ve been using the freebie ramdrive for months with no problem as my IE cache.

IE feels quicker and it saves some disk thrashing, whether that translates into any significant power savings is questionable.

I also have a 2GB memory stick that I load with MP3s. When playing them using WinAmp-lite the HD never comes on. That, along with turning off the screen, saves a bunch of battery. I haven’t tried movies or other applications.
