Ok, so I am still stuck with the Jap. keyboard. I have the screw driver, I have the service manual, I still can’t get this damn thing to come apart. I figured it’s worth a shot, maybe BestBuy or CompUSA will take a look at it. I went into my local BestBuy and walked up to their ‘GeekSquad’, lol, what a joke. Anyway, I went up to the counter, explained my situation, and asked if he could help. He said ‘i’ve never seen a computer like that, I would have no idea where to start’. He told me he’d need to send it to Sony, it will take 14 days and they will charge $25 just to decide if they will fix it. So, needless to say, that’s a no-go.
While I was there I figured i’d look around. I am anti-Best Buy, I won’t spend $1 there, so I rarely go in. I wandered over to the computer department to look at the S and the T. I spotted something I haven’t seen before…a 17” LCD Widescreen from Sony. $1199 marked down to $750 Open Box. It’s basically a TV/Monitor. A salesman came up and asked if he could help me. I asked if it came with a remote and if they had any sealed ones. He told me he wasn’t sure but he would check. Well, after 15 minutes of waiting, I opened up my 505 and looked for a WiFi signal. Sure enough Best Buy has an unsecure connection, so I log-in and go to SonyStyle to see what I can find.
Long story short, he said there was no remote (which I found out later there was) but it was only the display model (which I wouldn’t buy). Anyway, he was floored with the 505. He called over the whole department (5 or 6 people) and they surrounded me asking a million questions. One asked to hold it, so I let him. They passed it around in shock. The last one to hold it, gave it back to me, I said ‘thank you’, he said ‘no, thank you, you made my week’. Lol, you should have seen their faces.
The CF casing and the sheer size of the PC when holding it is really something unique…people get a kick out of it.
Anyway, thought I would share…tomorrow CompUSA to see if they will help.
