phew! cool…i was just about to suggest that….glad it’s working now!

i hope it stays in the correct res.  if i wanted to roll back to the other driver could i do that?  by just dl it and then installing it over this new one?

Not recommended. Windows has a habit of restoring dll files with newer dates on them over files you just installed. If you go into the Device Manager and right-click on your grapics adaptor, select Properties and then the Driver tab. There will be a button called “Roll Back Driver”.

I just updated my 82852/82855 graphics controller to driver 14.0 and my magnifying button (resolution toggle) no longer works.  I decided I would roll back my driver, but when I went to my Device Manager and looked under Display adaptors, I saw 2 entries for the Intel Graphics Controller - and they looked identical.  Actually, I am pretty sure this was the case before I updated the driver.  Being afaid to uninstall one of the two, I just selected one of them and clicked Roll Back Driver.  When I rebooted the computer, the magnifying button worked.  But then I got a system message saying I had installed new hardware, and then the magnifying button no longer worked again.  By the way, it’s a TR1a with XP Home.

Any suggestions on what to do?  Can I delete one of the 2 entries of the Intel Graphics Controller in Display adaptors?  And then if I roll back the driver on the remaining entry, will that work? 

Or is there any easy fix to the new driver version, and I just need to go somewhere else to make the magnifying button work again?

Hmmmm, same thing happened to me.  And, I got a *gasp* blue screen and the comp auto restarted…...

Ok, you can roll back the driver to the older version (13.6.1) which is higher up in the post and it should return everything to normal. It shouldn’t matter which Device Manager entry you choose. If you roll back one then the other should roll back as well as they both use the same driver.

When you rollback the driver then the magnify buttons works as normal.

Sorry for the inconvenience this caused. Apparently, the latest drivers break that functionality and we’ll have to report this to Intel so that they look into it and we’re not left out on future updates or enhancements.

Try rolling both back. One is for the LCD and the other is the VGA port on the side, but they’re for the same video card. Definitely sounds like the driver was rolled back and then the remaining adaptor was redetected and the new drivers were reinstalled. That of course overwrote the old drivers in the process…

You might try contacting Intel’s tech support to report the bug with the magnification button. Sounds worthless, but that’s why they do these driver releases in the first place.

ok my system is messed up now.  i keep getting blue screens too!  i followed the instuctions to roll back the driver but in the middle of it th thing crashed and didnt roll back the driver.  anytime i go to roll back the way drachen explained i get a blue screen and crash. 

how do i go back now?  do i install the old driver over the new one (drachen said thats not good to do)  but the other way isnt working so i am at a loss.  also when i start up i get an error message saying i recovered from a serious error. 

if i do a system restore will that solve the problem?

You could try uninstalling the driver from Add/Remove Programs in the control panel (just noticed it there) and then reinstalling the older driver. I’d try installing the old driver over the new one before doing a system restore. Personally, I’d rather live without the zoom button than have to restore the whole damn thing.

what is the old driver and where can i get it?  is it the one gr00vy pointed to above?

if i do add/remove programs and remove it.  what will happen to the video from the montior what will drive it before i put the old one back?  will i have and lcd?

also i do not mean a os reinstall i mean using system restore to go back a few days.  will that help me in this situation?

I simply rolled back my driver to get it working. Since that didn’t work for some of you might want to try something different.

You can uninstall the driver first from the Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs.

When it uninstalls it will load up a generic VGA driver so that you can install a new one.

You can install 13.6.1 which still allows the magnify button to work: ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/7004/a08/win2k_xp1361.exe

Strange…........... all i did was uninstall the 14.1 driver and it automatically reverted back to the original.  so do i need to install the one you posted?

the driver i have now is 6.13.1.3.485
