Doen anyone knows if this drive will work with the type S

It should…given that it’s a 2.5” design and has a standard interface. I’ll be looking at this thing too when it actually ships in quantity. Although, I’m pretty happy with my 80GB now…even at 5400RPM. It’s oh so good.

I’m happy with the good performance of my 7200 RPM 60GB model, and the better areal density will only improve performance. We might even see lower power consumption since it’s using newer components, much like the power savings on the new generation Toshiba 1.8” drives. My TR could use an upgrade to 60GB and match my S-series!

I’m pissed. I saw this drive at Best Buy today and was about to buy it. It was only $199.

Unfortunately, it seems Seagate has a MAJOR snafu going on. Basically, they are not 7200 drives but rather the 5400.2 drives. So, a complete box mix up. The real 7200s won’t be shipping until January. They said the price “should” be the same.

The 7200 model had 100GB and 16MB cache!

I don’t think Seagate would honor the a “tradeup” to the real thing despite the misleading boxes.

I was about to take a trip to Best Buy tomorrow until I saw the bad news below. It would have been a really good price, especially with the 12% off preferred customer weekend starting tomorrow.  :(

I smell class-action lawsuit.

Is there at least a sticker that reflects the correct speed or are they still selling them under the idea that they are 7,200 when they are really 5,400?

I might get one anyways….100GB is voluminous…and my sister needs a hard disk for her Powerbook so she won’t mind the 5400RPM. It’s way better than her stock drive. Also, that higher density should give it an extra boost too.

$199 is cheap though…especially for that capacity.

Any recommendations on a good 2.5” external enclosure? If they have this at my local Best Buy I’ll buy it and put it into the HDM06 FireWire enclosure and the 60GB 4200 RPM disk from that into a new one to give to my sister for backing up stuff.

i already have an 80gb hdd in my hdm06.. i’ll probably wait for the 7200 model for the 100gb hdd upgrade.. :drool:

Any idea when faster drives for the TR might come out ?

Well that PDF says it consumes 2.2/2.4/1.3 for Read/Write/Active Idle respectively… so… anyone know what the stock S takes? I’m still running on my 60GB 4200RPM stock :ph34r:  ...
