Good news for those looking to upgrade to the new 60GB drive. It is now available at XPCGear.com
I was really suprised to see this HDD out this early in the fourth quarter.
I ordered one next day air and I can’t wait for it to arrive.
The bad part is that I have to wait for the weekend to drive home from college to get it.

So it looks like it will be a while longer before the HDD will available.
Wow, thanks for saving us on some dough, koRnac.
Us .... “Us?” Wait a sec, I’m X505-a-jived!!! I meant “you.”
Ha! Ha! Looks like “you” TR-ers can’t upgrade to this 60 Gb of data capacity!! Ha! Ha! It must sux to own a TR.
>>prepares a fire-extinguisher .... and some mouse traps.

Actually, it might fit. I did not realize the dimensions were in millimeters (it’s only 3 mm thicker, which isn’t as thick as I thought it would be; I’ve never opened up a TR before, so I’m not sure how much head-room you have left to spare for the upgrade).
[quote author=“writetovarun”]Its pointless if you ask me, ill just be waiting for the 5400 RPM one thank you very much !
Pointless only if your looking for a performance upgrade…
I’m just looking for a disk-space upgrade at the moment… so it’s important that i get this drive soon… and my TR performance will increase, just because i’ll have some free space!!! Running at 99% capacity slows you down a lot.
Have they talked about/announced a 5400 RPM Drive that’ll fit in the TR???
The extra space is what i am getting the drive for, becuase one can never have to much of it.
It would have been awesome if there was an increase to 5400RPM, but I do not expect that to happen for at least a year. If we are lucky maybe sooner. The performance boost would have been a nice plus, though.
The increased RPM would have been nice, but the 1.8” hard drive form factor is still in its infancy and it will take some time for more options to be available. Once more companies start developing and manufacturing drives of their own, then we will see some form of competition, such as increased speed, increased capacity, and lower cost.
xpcgear.com seem to have pulled any reference to the new drive, so perhaps it’s not turning up all that soon after all.
My Hitachi one is about to fall to bits permanently I think (some nasty clunking noises and it locks up occasionally)... am now in the rather tricky situation where I have to decide whether to just get the Toshiba 40 or wait out for the 60.
Anyone got an inside track on when the 60s might become available?
