Ah great, been looking out for some halflife 2 comments with regards to the S series, hoping your right with regards to it playing better than doom 3, required specs do seem pretty low but then again think they always underestimate. Anyone else planning on getting it, want to make sure that I don’t waste money on something thats not really playable.

I’ve played betas of HL-2 engine…And it runs a lot easier than doom3…I am sure it will be less demanding…unless there is something that I’ve overlooked…
Yup - i can now confirm Half Life 2 works beautifully at full detail 1024x768. For fps junkies the average framerate is about 45-50, rising to 80 indoors and occasionally dropping to 20 or so in large outdoor environments.
Yea my range on HL2 is 25-125 . Thats in 1280x800 with textures on high and 4xAA. I do have my vid card overclocked a bit tho, and am running with a pretty large amount of ram.
You can see your frames per second by enableing the console, then typeing cl_showfps 1 after you pull it up.
Im currently useing the omega drivers ver2.5.90 and useing ATITool to overclock. I have Atitool underclock my gpu to 180/202 regularly but when I launch a 3d app it ramps up to 500/228 . I have actually got the gpu to run at 530 with no problems, but I ramped it down just to be safe.
I’m having major problems with video drivers right now… If I use the omega Drivers ver2.5.90 half life 2 has funny coloured textures all over the place, no matter what resolution or settings I have selected… With these drivers however, Doom III works fine. If I use the sony drivers available from their download site, Half-life 2 works perfectly, but I can’t get Doom III to work at all…..
wormdrummer - I had the same issues with the Omega Driver, so I went to driverheaven.net and downloaded the official 4.12 catalyst beta drivers, and lordy they make a difference in HL2. I can now run at 1280x800, and in fact just completed the game on normal difficulty.
The 4.12’s should be OK for Doom 3 too, but I havent tested it yet - good luck!
wadham.. thanks for the headsup.. I trie install the 4.12 beta drivers, and installed that modded patch but it still keeps telling me that the hardware is not foun in my machine.. any iea on how you got around this??..
Looks like im going to have to try new drivers or something myself as I have now encountered a problem with Half-Life 2 that crashes the game.*spoiler avert your eves  *There is a point about mid way thu when you take a second ride on a teleporter.Just as the screen fades into “reality” everything freezes the sound skips about 3 or 4 times and I crash to the desktop. With no error msg.Because the game autosaves about 3 seconds before the crash I have been able to relive the experience many times, but unfotunatly no combination of drivers, video settings, or clock settings I have tryed will let me progress any further. Its kind of troublesome.
Anyone playing halflife 2 deathmath? Only came out other day but great fun, can spend couple of minutes here and there, works really well at 1280x800, erm got everything on low but still looks nice, haven’t done anything with regards to the gfx card other than Catalyst, tbh its halflife 2, just curious, my names’ Chris online, not terribly original but maybe see some of you sometime.
