I have had my TR3 less than a month and I have a CRACK on the bottom righ-hand corner!!!!  Is this the start of my problems???  I treat my TR with such love - how could this happen??!?!?!!?!?

silver or white part?  did you bang her on something?

I’ve ordered the TR3 serice manual and it should at my dads by now.  Haven’t been home from college for almost a month to check the mail though.  Anyways, if you need a part number i should be able to get it for you once i get that manual.

The laptop cost a fortune - I cannot possbile pay more money out 2 repair it - it isn’t dangerous if i continue 2 use it is it?  It is about 1cm long.

It isnt dangerous… unless you see fringed wires and sparks shooting, your fine :mrgreen:  ...

Really though… umm there shouldnt be anything dangerous about it as long as you aren’t touching any metal that could be being exposed… and to keep anything fro getting in there till you can order another part (which shouldn’t be too expensive) just cover it with some clear Scotch tape of something… At least it’ll keep the dust and anything else from getting in there.

BTW, anyone have a S service manual? Still hoping to get an exterior case cover…

BTW : i tried “hotspot” today for the first time.. i have free acces till end of december thanks to my adsl provider. I worked great. I felt bad though cose everybody was looking at my baby… don t have to tell you what kind of look you all know it :D :D

Thanks for tip re:tape - but now when I open my beloved, that is all i can focus on - AND - it JUST GOT WORSE x100 ...... I have noticed that there is a gap between the DVD drive and keyboard!!!!!

Did I waste my hard earned cash???  Will the crack get bigger???  WIll I ever stop crying ......

I think it is just a victim of mass production… although Sony does a great job of keeping these defects down… compared to HP/C especially :evil: ... they arent as common as others. I never had a problem with the hardware aside from the hard drive… which is the 1.8” size’s fault ...argh
Just buy a new plastic covering and install it… you can use gr00vy’s tut on taking the TR apart and then be a little intuitive from there… or ... get soeone else to do it ...

You may want to call Sony and explain the situation, if you belive the crack/misalign is due to a defect when it was put together, they might fix it for you for free. If there is no signs of a fall, you might have a good shot.

I agree with Erik…If there is no evidence that it was dropped…And its truely defective…Then sony will probably fix it for free…

Finally have the TR3 service manual.  It covers the models PCG-TR3/TR3E and PCG-TR3A/TR3AP
