For the past several months, this site has been a victim of spam bot attacks. Basically, automated bots using randomly generated Hotmail accounts (nearly 99%) are registering accounts. I’ve been deleting them manually but it’s beginning to get on my nerves so I’m going to ban Hotmail accounts.

Don’t worry, if you’ve already signed up with a Hotmail account then you’ll be fine. It only stops new accounts using hotmail.com from being created. I hate to be draconian like this but it seems to be a necessary evil.

In the meantime, I’m going to have to add a visual confirmation add-on to the site to make registration a little more difficult for these bots. If that goes well then I may open up Hotmail again but for the time being it’s banned.

Just so you know…and knowing is half the battle.

when u say visual confirmation addon do u mean those images with some code which must be entered into the adjoining text box? If so, that should definitely take care of automated signup’s.

noobie here… spam? are you talking about just random posts? or is your e-mail server getting e-mail bombed?

Btw,  can you recommend me a server host?  my term with surpass hosting is about to end I was wondering what do you guys recommend

Speaking of banning hotmail, my main hotmail account has been not functioning through OE for the past 2 days…I think mine got that free no OE axe…damn.

you’re lucky it worked for you for such a long time…I was trying to set up the thing for someone about 3 weeks ago and it refused to saying that it needs subscription… blah blah…

Basically accounts are being created on this site by automatic bots. They all point to the same sites which are for spam like products. Most are inactive but I found one a while back that posted links to their spam products.
