that looks fine, there should be nothing wrong about that harddisk. of course you could also have taken another one, but this one is just fine as well.
My memory turned up yesterday and my 40gb drive today. The only issue I had was putting the wrong screws back into the tr1mp. Had to swap the shortys for the long screws!
Checked the mem and HD in the bios then did a full recovery from the dvd. Currently removing the progs I don’t want and then I will join it to my domain when I get home! Chuck some DivX on there and lets see what this laptop will do

I have 1gb RAM on order and currently sourcing out a DVD-RW.
Im really looking for a good deal on a UJ 812 or a UJ 822. Which one are your ordering ? My dvdrw UJ 812 is kinda buggered and the problem is im not in london where i reside, im in india at the moment. And im really going to need a working opticall drive in my tr, as that is the only computer i have.
I have read this thread with interest as I am considering purchasing a similar Sony Vaio T1XP (I think it is called the T170 in the US). Unfortunately it is only supplied with a 40gb 4200rpm drive and I would like to upgrade it to a 60-80gb 5400rpm. First is such a drive available? If not then no point changing. Second is there instructions for dismantling a Vaio T-Series?
Obviously I would not be doing this under warranty….but just keen to find out if this is possible.
The T uses 1.8” drives. The drives you mentioned are 2.5”. Best you can do is the upcoming 60GB drives that haven’t been released yet. Search, there’s tons more info on this forum.
Or I suppose wait until the new T91 (or whatever it will be called in the UK) is released with the 1.2Ghz processor and 60Gb HD….still 4200rpm though….booooo
