    I couldnt learn the french language too well for which ill always have regrets , i think its the most smooth flowing thing after english slang !!

The people in Paris seem to love to speak english..

When I went there this summer, I tried to speak french to many of them… But they’d insist on replying back to me in English…
Even though I am fully fluent in french… all of my schooling was french..
Guessing France doesn’t like Canadian french..

Where as in Italy….  The little Italian that I do speak, was good enough to get responses back in Italian..

I experienced the same thing both in France and Belgium (although my French is far from fluent). My personal theory is that they don’t like speaking English, but they like hearing their language being butchered even less. :?

I agree with drachen, people in france hate speaking in english ! I personally think i’d be beaten up if i ever tried speaking italian , Is canadian french any different from french french anyway ? :shock:

People in France don’t object to speaking English, they just object to the English. Once they know that you’re Scottish, Welsh, American, Australian or any other native English speaker you should be OK.

Get your national flag tatooed somewhere prominent and you’ll have a lovely time in Europe. Except in England of course.

They do object to Americans…especially the ones who wear sweats, cutoff jean shorts, white sneakers and think speaking loudly makes people understand you better.

Seriously…you can pick out Americans so easily in France. Just look for the bright white sneakers.

You’re a few hundred years short of really annoying them. But keep up the good work and you’ll get there.

And I especially don’t understand this sentence. Who is a few hundred years short of annoying them? And who are “them”? And what “good work” should whoever you mean keep up to annoy “them”?
