I placed an order for this card on July 15th with eCost and after several new ETA’s the latest one is Dec 31st :((
There are plenty of people selling it on eBay but they charge like 200 bucks more than what eCost would charge. The regular X800 XT’s are more freely available but now I’m obsessed with getting the platinum edition…if someone comes across a good deal for one please post back and let me know…any brand will do i.e. Sapphire, ASUS, Powercolor, etc (ATI would be the best ) but I definitely need the Platinum edition.
Why do you want the plantinum addition so bad…If you wait a couple of months they’ll come out with a better graphics card….I was just like you and I am glad I didn’t get crazy on buying something so pricey.
Now I can upgrade again when something better comes out….
i have waited quite a long time to build a kick ass system for myself…the advantage of buying the best currently would be i wouldn’t need to upgrade for the next few years…I’m only into a couple of games like flight sim and F1…

If you have waited and you have a lot of money to blow…Then go for it…I know I would…
I just made one back in June….It has a nvidia 6800 in it..
so I am not one to talk I think overall when you look at the performance of these high end cards you really need the cpu juice to max it out…

thx
definitely…
ATI Radeon X800 XT (would like PE, yet to buy)
AMD Athlon 3500+ processor (yet to buy)
1 gb Crucial RAM
Ogre Gaming Case (ordered but not yet arrived)
Ultra X-Connect Titanium blue color 500w power supply (yet to buy)
Western digital 80 gb 10000 rpm hdd
2 other 80 gb hdd’s from older system
ASUS A8V deluxe motherboard
Pacific digital DVD Writer (ordered, awaiting arrival)
Specs aren’t much of a jump, but for $20 MSRP hike, its most certainly worth waiting for the Plat…it will give you that much longer life in the long run.

I hope you are punching in a FX-3 or something…
the FX-53 is way too expensive compared to the athlon 3500+ processor so I’ve decided to settle for the athlon 3500+ processor…anyway’s the 3500+ does perform as well or even better than Pentium’s extreme edition processor as far as games are concerned.

Erik
The only problem is the ETA…Dec or Jan next year (that is also not sure) and as I mentioned the people at eBay are selling it for 150-200 more. I might just settle for the regular one…what scared me was what one dumbo had mentioned in his auction…he said that only the PE supports 3dc and I saw the differences at ATI’s website between no 3dc support and 3dc support…and they had mentioned that 3dc was introduced in the x800 models which means all x800’s have them…
and even in the comparison between PE and regular x800 xt, 3dc is not shown as a difference.

Thats kewl…Well it doesn’t sound like you’ll bottle neck too much…if any at all…
I know with research even with top line cpu’s they still bottle neck a little on performance….Nothing noticable for gaming…maybe a fame or two…

After ordering from 2 different stores yesterday night and today morning (what I thought were Platinum editions) I’ve decided to settle with this 3rd order which I just placed at buy.com for the non platinum edition
Used a 5% off coupon so got a discount of 20 bucks…I had already used that coupon recently so I had to order it using my other account.
Since I had placed 2 order’s at different stores I got a call from my bank Wachovia today (almost immediately after placing the 2nd order)...they had gotten suspicious that someone was misusing my card.
The first store where I placed the order mentioned
SAPPHIRE
VDO 256 GDDR3 8X AGP Radeon X800 PLATINUM XT Vivo, DVI, CRT, TV
mfg part # (100581)
while when I checked up at zipzoomfly the part # for the platinum edition by sapphire was 100581PESR, so I put that order on hold.
The 2nd site mentioned that their stock status was not sure
so I’ve written to them as well to cancel my order. Besides these I felt the prices on the PE were unjustified! Hopefully, everything will go right from now on and I’ll get my card without hassles.
