Ok, I’ve made up my mind. I found a great deal on a Sony Vaio X505ZP that I’ll be able to buy for $1,850. It’s no SP, but it’s way cheaper than what I’d want to be spending, and the system is in great condition despite that it’s used. And I could go for the American keyboard and extra 100Mhz (not that the Xtras could account for anything, but if every .1 lbs count to sub-portable enthusiasts, then every .1 Ghz count for every powerhungry-sub-portable “hybrids”). 8)
Anything I need to know before moving along with my purchase? Is it something that I will definitely love over my TR? Should I keep my TR if I do get the X505? Fill me in on some info! I want to know the advantages AND the drawbacks to make the most reasonable decision.
I second the go for it! I got mine yesterday and I love it! That is a good price. I got my US model for $2100 (refurb) and I thought I got a good price. Someone must have not liked it and returned it, because it looks brand new to me. Anyways, the machine performs extremely well and looks gorgeous doing it. No regrets here…two thumbs up.

Do you have pictures of your machine? I’d love to post some in the picture thread to show people the difference between the Jap. and US version.
Wow, that is a good deal. Spring quickly, regret later. Still, if I could afford the MSRP/find a good deal like that, i’d definitely purchase an X505.

I’ll take some pics later and post them here. :D
When you get the e-mail them to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) , i’ll host them for you.
Awesome! I think I’ll go ahead and go for it. Thanks guys.
tifosiv, I know that it comes with the wifi, but I’m not sure about the mouse. If it doesn’t come with the mouse, I’m always satisfied with my Intelli. And I won’t look back. 8)
That is a great deal, duffy! Congrats on the aquisition, and the way you make it sound, I’m really anxious to receive mine now!
The pictures look awesome. Thanks for the pics, duffy, and thanks for posting them, tifosiv. I think I’m going to really like the X505 after all. :D
When I saw the x505 U.S. version at Fry’s. It looks very sweat….The only big draw backs that I would stay away from it…is the wierd rubbery keyboard…no xbrite….no internal optical drive and no bluetooth….
Too many things I think I would miss….But, It is a very nice machine I think for school…becasue of the size and the wieght…nothing can beat that….even on a good day…

The keyboard is actually much better then the TRs, its hard to tell from a display point, but once its on a table, it’s just right.

Thats good…It just insn’t anything I ever seen before…So I tried it out and it felt wierd….
But, I am sure if I got to try it out longer like you I might come up with a different conclusion.
I had the same experience with the X I looked at at Fry’s. I thought the keyboard was terrible. Dunno what was up with that unit, but my X’s keyboard is fine. It has a nice feel to it and doesn’t feel crowded at all. I’ve always liked touchpads, so the pointing stick is my biggest complaint. Overall it’s a great machine.
