i dont think so cause the sound is clear. i might think that the JR1 has some sort of amplifier, cause like groovy said, it acts like another sound card. maybe it amplifies the signal, i dunno, i m just guessing. sometimes when it outputs a signal that a cheap earphone/speaker cant handle, u will hear it. with the free headset that comes with it, it’s terrible, with the earphone that i have ( http://www.siliconpopculture.com/sonytr/viewtopic.php?p=26674 ), it sounds a bit better than the free one, i hear way less noise that i described, but still i can hear some. the mid and highs are OK, it’s just the bass. i listened to high treble songs and they are fine, but once i listened to rap or hip hop that are heavy in bass, i hear it.
when i hear the same music (with same winamp player and same volume settings, everything are the same) via TR output, it sounds fine, but it’s not loud enough compare to JR1. using the JR1, it’s definitely louder (low, mid and highs), i can tell, but maybe cause it’s louder, it creates that noise :?: also with TR, it’s more surround especially in the bass, maybe due to the dolby headphone technology :?: which the JR1 doesnt have.
i assume it’s the earphone cause if the JR1 is defective, i would hear the same on both earphone. i might be wrong in my assumption cause i m no expert in earphone technology.
it might be the earphone, so i m going to b&o store this weekend to bring my TR and JR1 there to test their $200 earphone and see if i hear the same thing.
