Hi all,

I’m looking to buy a new TR but can’t decide between the two.

Is the 5 worth $800-$1000 more than the 3AP1? 

The TR3AP1 is at CDW for $1799 and the memory should be around $200 or so to bring it up to 1GB.

I think both US model do not have bluetooth, correct?

And now that I think about it, the TR series has been discontinued, hasn’t it?  Is it still a good idea to buy or is something new coming around the corner?

Me either..  I’ve had both windows open all morning (TR5AP & TR3AP1).  All I need to do it click “Add to Cart”.

TR3AP1 w/1GB for ~ $2100
or
TR5AP for ~ $3000

Help!

Can anyone think of a reason NOT to get the TR3AP1?  It’s a steal right now at only $1799 - at least for everything you’re getting.

Bluetooth?
Networking?
Memory?
Speed?
Battery?

Any reasons why I NEED the TR5AP?  I don’t need the burner and I suppose if I ever did I could probably upgrade it with a better one anyway.

I’d much rather come in at $2000 instead of $3000, but I could be persuaded to spend the extra $ if it was worth it..

Any more opinions?

I couldn’t stand it any longer so last night I broke down and ordered the TR5 through CDW.  Got it this morning.

All I can say is “wow!!”  What a machine.

I’ve also got a new Waterfield case on order.  Can’t wait!

So, any particular impressions of the TR5?  Does it seem faster than the other TRs?  How about noise level?  One dealer told me the TR5 extra fans in it (3) because of the DVD-RW drive, which made it a louder machine.  Of course, they didn’t have any TR5s in stock so I wonder if it was a way to push me towards a TR3.  Does it seem particular loud?  Any loud fan noise?

The TR is a beautiful machine…But, I would save the money and get a T150…. :wink:

Very quite, i can barely hear it, in fact right now i cant hear it. Its much faster than my old R600, which i installed a faster drive in and has 1 ghz cpu.

I’ve not used the DVD burner yet so maybe fans kick in then.

My only complaint, the keyboard doesn’t feel too nice, but im already getting used to it.

I haven’t tried out my dvd burner in my T-150….On the to do list…
