I have a German version, the TR1MP—will it also work on mine?
Also, is there not an issue with the serial number, regarding dowloading updates? I mean, is it possible to have the same copy running on multiple machines that are connected to the net?

the disk, afaik, is multilingual ie you choose the language at installation, I used it in English.
There’s no serial on the DVD, you will have to provide your own. I assume that each vaio is sold with a license anyway.

I can’t connect to that site, does that mean that big brother is out there watching and closed it already?

It’s not a site; it’s a hashlink for the eDonkey filesharing network.

Sorry i will start again, it is a long time since i used file sharing, when Napster gave up the ghost i used Kazaa, but I stopped when the ads etc got too much, What is the best file sharing program, is it Shareaza. Reading the posts it says its good if you disable edonkey, and presumably that is the program i want to use?
I would like to be able to download the odd track again, especially if I am not going to be arrested!
Should I be using Kazaa mate 2 to block my computer’s IP, if anyone has used it and now uses Kazaa ok, let me know. below is something i got from Zdnet this week.
Kazaa Mate 2.0
http://slink.com.com/slink?217846
Kazaa Mate allows anonymous surfing and file sharing. It blocks your computer’s IP. No robot scanning the Internet can detect your identity. You may download pictures, movies, and music in complete privacy. It blocks all banners produced by Kazaa and increases download speed. Upgrade your browser for an easier way to search online. It gives an extra boost to Kazaa’s search engine. It does increase the number of ‘Search Mores’ to the sky. It removes spyware found on your PC.
Version 2.0 works with all versions of Kazaa.

Any chance someone can make an image of the TR2AP1 recovery DVD?
As an alternative, you may want to host the file on bit torrent. Its similar to Kazzaa with regards to P2P, but, without all of the spyware/virus/crap.

just to clarify things a bit, running a p2p program is perfectly legal. The only thing that could be illegal (depending on where you live) is trading material that is protected by the laws, like music, movies and so on.
Trading a disc of drivers that will run only on your notebook doesn’t sound that illegal to me, considering you have already the software loaded in your hard disk and that you (the downloader) own a legitimate license to use the software.
It’s like you bought windows xp for your pc and you have your beautifuly printed holografic license sticker but your cd media broke and you went to a friends a made a copy of the install cd. I’m not a lawyer but doesn’t sound that much against the laws to me (it surely isn’t in Italy anyway).
I doubt Sony will ever send people on your tracks for it.
Of course if you start giving away britney spears that’s another mather, but in this case don’t blame me

I have the recorvery DVD for the TR1 I bought in Germany and it’s for WinXP in German. There is no option for which language to install in, like every other copy of Windows.
I installed my own copy of Windows XP in English, but the drivers and stuff are a pain. I want the recovery DVD in English so that I don’t have to go through the entire Windows installation, then the driver installation.
But I still wonder about problems with the serial number/activation key?

I let a co-worker borrow my TR2 recovery disc set, and the program didn’t ask for a serial number at any point during the installation. I’ve used different install discs on various machines before, and if prompted for a Windows serial, the one on the sticker on the machine has always worked. Of course, this is with computers in the U.S. and domestic versions of Windows, but I wouldn’t think the restrictions would exist with overseas versions.
