but the TR is series is history????  no longer in usa at least?

bought mine about a year ago…was actually thinking of moving to S series for performance boost.

just read about sony B-series.  “business class”  their definition:  stable design not changed every 16 weeks!!!

what will we see in january????

It seems the TR series is history, they already stopped selling the TR5 and it seems they are just selling their remaining TR3s.

As far as what Sony will do in January, who knows, the U series was introduced as quickly as it was pulled…so, you really never know.

just saw T n X505.  i m impressed with T design.  feel solid, thinner, and love the action button, but then performance probably at most 5% better than TR (0.1 ghz and 1 MB cache more) since everything else are the same.

i’ll keep the TR and buy next gen of T, hopefully sometimes next year, with the new chipset alviso and the new intel 2915 a/b/g.

as for X505, i m impressed with design, but not with the price.  sorry eric but it’s just not worth $3000, probably $2000, but not $3000

I agree, it’s not for everyone…you (buyer) first need to get over the fact that your paying about $1-1.5K over what you should for the components…1Ghz, 512MB, 20Gb…on it’s face it’s a bad deal…unless you really need it to be super thin and light, it’s a waste.

Exactly…where are all these people coming from who bring PRICE into the equation?  It’s all about style, design, usability, aesthetics, coolness, and drool factor. If you want value then there’s plenty of other choices!   :wink:

BTW, I have seen the x505 and I was impressed on its size…But the keyboard and screen looked cheap….and the keyborad felt like they were made out of some dollar store calculator plastic…

IMO I will keep my TR.  Also I bought the TR for many reasons and one was it size.

I looked at the “s” and considered upgrading….But looking at it now I can’t believe it even crossed my mind.

The TR is the perfect size for me the S is too big….I also love the color and am glad they stopped making them….It makes are less likely to be around so it will still have a drool factor while not too many in production.

Too bad they didn’t come with special edition numers on them…oh that always could be the serial code…

I tried out a new T170, don’t know if it was defective or what but the fan kept coming on and running and is very loud compared to the TR.  It would do it for no reason, even during web browsing, etc. I changed the power setting to Quiet but it didnt make a difference. 

The DVD-RW made a lot of beeping noises at start up and got the fan going really loud. Also, the position of the volume control and mute buttons on the T are on the front edge, and it’s really easy to accidentally keep hitting them on/off.  No Zoom button for the display like on the TR. 

I much prefer the TR even though the T is a little slimmer and just seems lighter (even though they are the same weight).  Would love the X505 if it had a touchpad.

sad day my friends…. with this new t serie.. our little TR made their first move into their “museum piece” life…  :D

It’s not a museum piece while I am still using it.  Mine is only three months old.  I just upgraded to 1GB RAM and have the bluetooth upgrade pieces on the way.  Right now this computer has the most RAM of any PC in the house (next in line is my desktop at 768MB).

This thing has to last me at least a couple years or the wife will kill me.
