[quote author=“rich”]whats the benefit of flashing it? i don’t think the new firmware makes the drive region free….......
You are quite right. Unless, someone decides to release the RPC-1 version for the UJ-812, updating with a RPC-2 firmware will not make the drive region free.
Now, according to Sony Japan, the new UJ-812 RPC-2 firmware update will fix the following:
- Playback of DVD+R Double Layer.
- Improve reading efficiency of media.

The second link is the same one i posted on this thread, it takes you to the same page for the same K103 firmware , but then again it doesnt work.
I was just curious because you mentioned that Sony, Japan said they were going release the RPC 2 firmware for our drives which would enable the RAM capability of the UJ 812.
[quote author=“writetovarun”]When you mentioned that sony was releasing a new firmware which will enable the RAM support, were you talking about the K103 ?
I am sorry that my statement led to misunderstanding. I was just quoting that Sony Japan released a firmware as of Sept. 30, 2004 (K103) that improve reading support for DL media. I never mentioned anything about RAM support. My apologies.
lolz.. You actually got me excited for a second about this firmware. I dont really burn a lot of dvds and i dont think i’m ever going to burn a DVD RAM but it just feels good when everything you own is absolutely up to date !
