help!  I was using my TR3A a week ago, left the room for a bit ( i was the only one home at the time) raised my lid and it had these lines on the right side of the screen that went up about halfway, then took a left all the way across kinda loke a inverted L ..THEY KEPT GETTING WORSE… I shipped to SONY AND THEY RESPONDED WITH A BILL ESTIMATE FOR ABOUT 800 DOLLARS CITING PHYSICAL DAMAGE!!!  I have a sony hardcase that i carry it in inside of another laptop case, I have never dropped or sat or hit or spilled any thing in it. I told sony I will never pay to fix an lemon display, they are standing by their clame that it was physical damage. ANYONE HERE SEEN SUCH A SCREEN ? HAVE any luck getting it fixed? If so how.  :( PS….THERE IS NOT 1 SCRATCH ON THE WHOLE LAPTOP..

I had some sort of smudge that developed on the inside of my screen. I sent it to Sony and they replaced it without any hassle. I was expecting a fight and was glad it didn’t happen.

I’ve only heard of lines appearing on CRT screens. Didn’t know it could happen with LCD. I would suggest calling Sony and ask to speak with a supervisor. If they still refuse warranty service, ask them if they have a grievance resolution procedure. Good luck!

I have generally been a bit wary about the TR display after hearing from a lot of people about it. I dont know about the lines and i have never had them on my TR but something that concerns me is the fact that the display fades away after a few months. Is that just how X brite is suppose to be? Have there been any S type users who have had fading displays over the past few months or is it just a debacle with the TRs?

I think “fades away” is a real stretch. All LCD backlights will dim over time. They are, after all, just tiny flourescent lamps.

Yeah but 6-8 months ? Thats too soon dont you think. Maybe Xbrite is sony’s excuse to say sorry its suppose to fade away how long do you expect such a bright screen to stay bright

Perhaps you’ve seen more comments or an in-depth analysis of this purported problem than I have. The few comments I’ve seen have been very subjective. The real question is if the Sony lamps degrade any faster than their competitions lamps, given that they all come from a handful of lamp manufacturers.

did I mention SONY does not even make the display that is in my laptop? seems like SHARP MADE IT…...AND I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING A SONY LAPTOP.
