[quote author=“Concura”]How is the screen? I don’t think it’s as bright as Xbrite, is it? But is it bearable at least? Very good? That’s my main concern; ever since I saw Xbrite, I wasn’t sure if I could survive with anything else after I compared with other friends’ laptops.
It’s nowhere near as bright as XB…I think it’s more then bearable though. I personally had about enough of my TR’s XB screen…I was getting a huge amount of glare and it was nearly impossible to keep the screen clean because of that coating they put on it that made it almost coated instead of smooth. The screen is noticeably brighter then the screens of the people that sit near me…it’s also more true…by this I mean the white is really white.
I did notice that the, I guess contrast, was different between the 505 and the TR. A program I used daily on the TR involved a white background and a blue box (faint blue). On the 505 the blue is almost invisible…honestly, if I wasn’t looking for it I might have never seen it. I am not sure if there is an adjustment or something, I am not even sure if it’s the contrast or something else…and it’s the only thing i’ve noticed different so far.
I love how clean I can keep the screen and how the glare no longer bothers me as the finish is smooth and almost matte.
On the lowest brightness setting it is a bit hard to see, I think the lowest TR setting would be somewhere around a 3 on the 505 (out of 9).
Hope this helps a bit…if you can see the 505 in person first, I suggest you do that…
Just received package from FedEx with the X505/sp from dynamism.
Amazing….just amazing…..
First i looked for possible damage on the unit but seems ok.
I’m going to install it in just a sec.
Though i already have some questions:
My X505 doesn’t really close tightly on the right site, there a minor spacing when comparing it to the left side when you close the monitor screen.
Second: My X505 didn’t arrive in a Sonystyle Box as can be seen in the pictures of Eric, but it was in a plain box, though the x505 itself was in the Vaio Box…...
Should i be concerned with the above 2 questions in mind?
thanks,
Alexander
My x505 doesn’t close tightly on its own on the right side either. I had thought it was because I swapped the keyboard as I didn’t notice it before, but since you mentioned it, I guess not. What I do is close the 505 then pick it up and put pressure on the thick part right in front of the hinge on the right side. This closes the entire thing. I’ll try and post a small video file tonight to make sure we are talking about the same thing.
As for your box, maybe its the way Dymanism imports it. All these imports have been opened and tested, its nothing to worry about. If you notice damage (scratches, chips, etc) then I would say something. As long as all the parts are there and the computer seems to work, you should be fine.
Enjoy your 505, if you want to post some pictures please let me know I’ll put them on the thread for you.
[quote author=“Alexander”]Hi erik,
Thanks for the tip, you are right…when pressure is applied on the right site (more towards the battery) it closes fine! I think that the minor space is a way to open the vaio more easily/quicker.
I may shoot some photo’s in the weekend. thanks for replying!
Alexander
No problem, no need for a short video then. You might be right about the spacing…I usually only close it tight when I put it in my bag, otherwise if I am just moving it from one room to another, I just close it quickly.
Feel free to ask any other questions if you have them.
and from the looks of it, i think the japanese version (the one above) is kinda better, but you really have to memorize all the symbol keys, or you could just guess which one is which…if that works for you…

Hey X505 users…. new user here! I finally got my X505ZP and I am really in awe, it is something that cannot be expressed in words and only can be experienced once you actually see, touch, feel this masterpiece. It definitely deserves Qualia status  if you know what I mean (Qualia concept is about emotion and experience a product may bring to you).
Anyways, I am still exploring it and installing sw I need and use. I prefer TrendMicro Internet Security 2005 for my virus, spam and firewall needs, so I got rid of Norton.
I also located the X505 developers story and was amazed what the designers and software engeneers had to go through to create X505! Unbelievable. As many mentioned the packaging of this PC, they even involved a designer team for that!!! I will post the Developers story here tomorrow, since VAIO EU has it locked and available for only their users.
I love the cases, accessories and what a tiny notebook it is! My X505 came with PCGA-DDRW2, and I will be selling it and getting the DDRW3 soon. I have some other things planned as well. OK, I’ll shut up now.
Laters….

[quote author=“mike_disgusted”]hi, i have bought a PCG-X505 sony in japan, i’ve tryed to install winXp english version but the problem is that the computer doesn’t boot the cd when it restarts, although i activated the optical drive in the bios,
do you have an idea how to install winXp on this laptop ?
Do you have a Sony optical drive?
Unfortunately you are limited to Sony drives in order to boot the system.
If you do have a Sony drive, is your BIOS set to have the optical drive boot prior to the hard disk? Press F2 at startup to enter the setup screens.
