Well, the PPC has word native support. Palm you can do word files in something like Docs to go which converts the files, but they also offer a Palm native Word program but its not as good as PPC’s actual Word (IMO).
BTW, PPC, not dell, has a VGA screen already…blows what Palm offers out of the water.
There is a decent mp3 program for the palm, pocket tunes. For video, use MMPlayer, but its still technically a Beta IMO and full of bugs.
I know most medical people i know are required to use palm because of proprietary software that was developed in house and only runs on palm…you should ask around to find out what everyone else is using before making a purchase…

hehe now you can see why i’m really thinking about passing up the ipod. i don’t want an mp3 dangling in one hand and a pda in my other hand. Plus i can’t imagine carrying a 1000 dollars worth of electronics all the time. I want it all in one
oddly i have this feeling that Palm is like apple as PPC is to windows.
thanks for the input. I’ll check out the ppc support for the medical field.

There is support for PPC in medical field, but i know some hospitals (at least in NJ) use palm only software…I know because I had to help several Docs buy them

pocket tunes is great for mp3’s. mmplayer is too buggy for me. for videos i use kinoma producer/player.

Yeah, but then you need to re-encode all movies to Kinoma…he doesn’t want to switch his Mp3’s to ATRAC, why would he want to convert his MPG/AVI’s to Kinoma?

i did it because it reduces the file size greatly(from 60mb to 15mb). i need to upgrad to the 2gb sd card when it becomes available..

I agree, I use kinoma too, but jso902 doesn’t want to convert his files…
i’m not saying i won’t convert. right now i’m still using MP3 because it’s the most universal and compatible. =] AAC is newer, better and more efficient, but my rio can’t play it right now. Once i pawn my rio player, i’ll be more than happy to make the switch over.
kinoma Player is a digital media player for palm handhelds. kinoma producer coverts video clips into kinoma movies that allows playback
on most palm handhelds.

Actually Documents To Go 6 has native support for Microsoft Word documents (no more conversion required). Also as much as I like Pocket Word on the Pocket PC (the writing mode is really nice for note taking in class) I have to say Documents To Go is better at editing Microsoft Word and Excel files.
Documents To Go can handle tables in Word and make charts in Excel. Its also able to edit and create Powerpoint presentations (to various degrees of success).
I guess it all depends on what you want to do more, personally I don’t need a lot of the extra featurs of Documents To Go but I do like the writing interface for Pocket Word. But overall I think Documents To Go is a better overall producet (especially since it gained the ability to edit native files).

Yeah I knew they existed (which is why I said they now make native word for Palm), I just wasn’t sure if Docs2Go went native…IMO they were all useless for what I needed to do with them…
For PPT’s it would be nice to be able to hook the PDA up to a projector, something clie’s haven’t been able to do since Os4…

It’s a projector that hooks to PDAs. It also works with Documents To Go for powerpoint presentations. But it’s not cheap either, not worth the cost for me at least.

Yeah this is what I was reffering to…apparently they fixed their OS4 problems with clie’s except they are now sold out.
I think I need to throw in my two cents. I did kind of scan through your all’s posts so if I rebeat in some ideas please forgive me. I’ve been a PDA user for many years.
PDA’s
Zaurus, Palm Pilot Personal (made by U.S. Robotics), Palm III, Everex Win CE, HP Jornada (which was one of the coolest btw), and finally the Sony UX50.
Many people may argue using the small sony screen is annoying, but in reality it’s a lot like using the screen on the TR, you can see it, and read it well without the need of eye glasses. The wifi is quick despite being 802.11b, and bluetooth is fun in Metro areas, in which you can talk to total strangers. I use mine as a universal remote also. It controls my media center and my camcorder. Using the built in video cam and still cam is cool, you can take pictures of people that have no clue. Several times I’ve used it in the police force in order to capture some of the most incriminating evidence. I also use Documents to Go 6, at first it was annoying. You could use it but it wouldn’t take up the whole screen. Now they modified it to work on the UX50 and 40. Finally with all the sony items I have (camera, video cam, desktop, sony tr) I have memory cards which allow me to transfer information in a fly. I can work on a report real quick on my UX50 when I have some down time, and then bam, turn around put it in my TR and print it. Or grab a picture, then transfer it to my RX741 to edit it. It’s really convienent. Yes I went off on a tangent. So, that’s about it, UX50 rocks all…although Win CE’s are cool they are easily bogged down when you open one program after another, and you have to deal with file extensions…it’s just a headache.
