Well after installing the new hdd after the old one died, I proceeded to install Gentoo on my laptop again. Except this time it’s useing the whole HDD :mrgreen:

So I got practically everything working on my TR3AP2 except the Motion Eye and there seems to be nothing out there for it yet. The keys on the side (however I found some info about something called vaiod that will let you use them except the site is in Jap. so I have no idea what it says exactly, ill look into it later)

So now I have two things left to do. First get the ALPS touchpad working properly and ACPI to recognize certain events Besides im happy to say that the TR3 works great with linux.

Did you have to use any of the hacks to get the widescreen resolutions in Xorg?  When I last tried Gentoo, X couldn’t get the right res.

Im running Gentoo 2004.2 on kernel 2.6.8 r3 (gentoo-dev-sources) Everything is built into the kernel i have no modules running except the ones for the Native wifi drivers and for the touchpad i had to patch the kernel with alps.patch, and yes i had to use the 1280patch (hack) to get the res right, all you have to do is patch then add the 1280x768 as a mode and then add the modeline, i can post all my configs if you need them, i can post my xorg.conf and my .config file for the kernel. For the fnkeys i use a script made by a guy it’s called jdmouse which i can post a link too if you need it. The sony memory stick should work outta the kernel, as for bluetooth anything that was related to bluetooth in the kernel was enabled, as far as i know the BT module in the TR is CR32(?)[ill have to look that one up again for specs.] or something like that and is supported by linux natively as far as i know. Sound should work out of the box as well just enable the intel component, as for pcmcia i enabled yenta as it is the most common and the prism2 standard and emerged pcmcia-cs and added pcmcia to the default runlevel. If you need it i can also provide a acpi script that uses spicctrl to adjust brightness when ac is plugged in and plugged out. (there are other features as well that are useable in it but i don’t use)

Oh and as for the cell phone, you can see if it’s possible with your cell phone here under the cell phone section. Mine is a Sanyo SCP 8100 works great

Also here is a place on TuxMobil where someone installed Gentoo on their S-150 (more relevant for me… just scroll down to find it {i left it on this page to show where the other links to installed things specific to Sony laptops are.})  I wish I had the time to try getting all of this to work.  Unfortunately I have to many other things to get working on before I try to get Linux working properly on my system.  Right now, SUSE is just sitting there always making sure grub lets me know SUSE is still alive, waiting for me, calling me. 

Does anyone know if there is a way to make the external vga work? I have been trying to fiddle with it but i have made no progress, im not positive if the Fn key has to work in order to make it work… If so im going to try and see if sonypid will make it work as im currently useing a patched jdmouse to make the Fn keys work…. However i noticed something weird. Even before the patch pressing the Fn key plus the arrow keys made page up and page down work, odd. Also i noticed that the Sony U1 Fn keys are fully functional with just sonypi enabled in the kernel and the fnkey option turned on. Ill mess with it some more to see what really works on the TR.

Anyway i was wondering if anyone had any info on that.

Yes, PgUp and PgDn should always work, because the keyboard is just generating the proper scancodes for those keys.

The kernel doesn’t even notice that Fn is pressed down, it just thinks you pressed PgUp or PgDn.

Patches or any additional stuff are only required for additional key combos with Fn which you won’t find on any standard keyboard, because they generate events which are yet unknown. (Not necessarily scancodes)

Also running Gentoo and 2.6.9 with swsusp…
The external vga works if I power the machine up with an external monitor plugged in but I haven’t figured out any way to switch it on/off otherwise.  External vga even works if I just suspend/resume not just power cycle.  Not a big deal for me but certainly an inconvenience.

I don’t know if ACPI is doing its thing properly or not with the fan and such.  I hadn’t bothered to monitor the temp regularly but I don’t remember ever hearing a fan come on.  Just checking now, /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/ATF0/temperature shows 51C which is hot but not too hot.  Does anyone know which I2C modules work with the tr so I can get lm-sensors working?  I have it reading from the eeprom but haven’t figured out how to get lm-sensors to find any temp related stuff.

Which Fn keys do you have working with jdmouse?  Could you post the script version your using?

I’ve occasionally used spicctrl to set the display brightness but after a few minutes, the display automagically resets to full brightness… how did you fix this?
