i have a linksys wifi 802.11b router stacked with an extender.

i don’t mind my neighbor from downloading online media, but it sure as hell can suck up all the bandwidth.

just a dsl modem hooked up to a linksys 54g router that 3 computers are connected to via 802.11g. it’s someone in my household so it’s not like i can just ban them.

NP, if you have a Linux router there would have been a much easier way…thats why I asked…and yes, I know the linksys is linux based, but i mean a real linux system.

I have found that when someone maxs the upload rate it kills the download rate.  So if they are running an ftp server, get on there comp when not look’n and just set a limit on the download rate off the server.  It doesnt take much just enough to allow cross talk and you dl rate should increase.  I don’t know what the limits are with dsl, as i have always been on T1 or cable.  T1 is not relevant here but i think the cable modems have a similar bottleneck as dsl… or just ask them to put a limit on the upload rate out of the server.  All of the FTP server programs have limits for groups and individual users…
