Hi Jimmy, I wasn’t entirley sure if it was you when I read Vienna, of course in your case I will double my effort!
By the way, do you want to know one reason why the X505/SP (carbon fiber version) was not released in Germany (I am sure that the price is the other one). I talked to the Senior Sony Notebook manager for Germany on the Cebit 2004 and the problem was that the carbon case is flameable. There seems to be some kind of weird european law regarding how easy a notebook can burn, that forced Sony to bring only the metallic X505/P version to Europe. In addition to that they had a patent problem with the memory stick reader mouse of the JDM modell so they had to change it for the memory card reader.
x505 cannot change keyboards…physically different layouts, or so I’m told. I don’t know if this changes things for me, I only want the CF and I only want a US board…
Well you can always re-map the keyboard even if you can’t physically change it. That’s what I’ve done with my TR as I couldn’t live with out | and \. Works for me as I don’t look at my keyboards that much so the keys can say what they want

Yeah but the Jap/Eng keys are layed out differently.
Well I can get the german keyboard now and it is not that expensive (about 125 Euro), however the problem (like Erik pointed out) is the way they keybaord is integrated in the notebook. Due to the different numbers of keys the overall keyboard layout it seems that it is not possible to change the keyboards.
Does anyone have a Service manual for the X505 which would further clarify this problem ?
