Hi all, I traded up from a TR1 to an S170 and am still getting used to it. Is my computer missing the PowerPanel software that comes on TRs? I’m trying to figure out how to edit profiles and get the computer to throttle down to save battery life. If there’s no PP software, is there a way to get it from the TR onto the S? Thanks!

Sony is no longer going to use the PowerPanel software. Instead, they’re integrating tighter into Windows XP’s power management software. Go into your power options and you should see the VAIO Power Management tab. It is setup similarly to PowerPanel and should be easy to figure out.

BTW, I uninstalled it and installed PowerPanel, which works fine. I would really like to use the new one if I could figure out how to change the language to English, lol.

EDIT: I think I got it, besides the default language above, the strings.ini lists the features…can you list yours so I can change it to english?

I can try to install it on my TR and see if it works…maybe this weekend.

I think Vaio power offers less choices. I am in the process of doing real-world tests of both on the same system to see which makes the vaio last longer..expect results tonight or tomorrow.

The PowerPanel software definitely had a lot more options and more configurable. Vaio Power Management is better integrated but has less options. Also, the options in each program that are presented to you may differ depending on the type of hardware you have. I’ll need to verify this again but I swear that Banias and Dothan processors give different options. Yes, I stuck a Banias processor into my Type S just for fun and it worked although the BIOS had different options for it and I think the Power Management options were different. More on this later.
