When I recently sold my TR with built in bluetooth and picked up a 505 without it I knew I would no longer use my Logitech MX900 BT mouse, so I sold it along with the TR. I knew Logitech released the MX1000 which uses a laser to track position, making it more precise. According to a review I read it is supposed to work on glass surfaces. Since my desk is all glass, this feature interested me greatly.
First, the pictures:
The mouse itself feels a bit lighter then the MX900, but it could just be me since I don’t have them both together to compare. What is different is that when you lift the mouse it will no longer track…and there is no light beam visable from the bottom. This is most likely due to the laser and safety concerns. Despite the other review, this mouse does not work on glass surfaces.
It does, however, glide smoother then any other mouse I have ever used…it’s completely fluid. The center wheel is very soft (rolling) and makes the slightest of clicks. The scroll wheel on the MX1000 also works left and right. The MX900 had 2 small buttons around the wheel for page up/page down scrolling, I wasn’t too happy with that. In the MX1000, they replaced those 2 small buttons with a rocker switch. This is much easier to work with. Likewise, on the side, the forward/backward are now one rocker switch.
Unlike the MX900 and most mice, the battery is not user-replaceable. There is an LED indicator on the mouse for battery life. I don’t have exact battery life specs as I leave my mouse in the charger when not using it and it will not be used everyday.
Overall, it’s a good mouse, not too much better then the MX900, but worth it if you don’t have BT and want something similar. It does flow smoothly, tracks well, and has a decent weight to it. I paid about $55 shipped from Amazon.com for this mouse, the MX900 was about $79 or so.
