That was the first computer the police confiscated from me, along with my monitor, disk drive, 300+ floppies, joystick…but I convinced them to leave the printer…couldn’t do much phreaking with a printer.

eek! Piracy or some other reason? I know piracy was terrible back then, it was so easy to copy. My C64 has 2 disk drives…so I could easily make 1 to 1 copies…legally of course
The 64’s microprocessors support two high-resolution graphic modes, smooth scrolling, “sprites”, bit mapping, character collision resolution and character mapped graphics, not to mention three channels of complex sound. All this make it an excellent game machine, which is what it excelled at the most, with thousands of software titles release and numerous peripherals to extend its capabilities.
 wat

The first computer I actually took apart and knew how the stuff inside was connected was when I was 8 in 1998 P2 450 Mhz… impressed me. But then again, my aunt’s Mac from the mid 80’s was amazing to me… But all i did on that was play games (95’-97’).
Phreaking..
Blue Boxing…...PBXs…
Basicly..ripping off bell..
Calling BBS’s around the world at no cost…and downloaded the latest games..
1. phreaking
A form of hacking, as applied to telephone networks. Phone phreaks exploit weaknesses in the phone system to make long-distance calls for free, tap into other’s calls, take control of lines, get free phone services, and the like.

The C64 was my very first computer. I remember when my dad came home with it. I didn’t know what the hell this thing was he was taking out of the box (I was almost 10 years old at the time), but I sure used it a lot. I played tons of games on it and also Print Shop. Oh, the memories! :D
The tools of phreaking often take the form of “boxes”, such as the blue box, red box, or beige box. These devices - whose names refer to their function, not their actual color - generate various useful audio frequencies or electrical signals. The “red box”, which allows you to make free calls from pay phones, is the easiest to build and can be assembled using two parts from Radio Shack that cost less than ten dollars.
Am I to understand from this that phreaking is more hardware-based than software-based? Or was that just back when dial-up was all there was? I know phreakers are still common so doesn’t that mean it can happen with DSL+ to some extent?
