i am not sure what i did but the computer doesnt go into standby or hibernation anymore?  i went to bed last night and awoke to find it was on all night.  how do i fix this?

What profile did you leave it on? Was it plugged in? For instance, it won’t hibernate on the default settings with power plugged in unless you change that profile. For battery power, it should default to standby-ing after a period of time and then hibernating after a period of time.

Make sure you have hibernating enabled in the Power control panel and then make sure the profile you are switching to (automatically or manually) has standby and/or hibernation enabled.

it was plugged in (ac power is the profile i think) and it usually goes dark after a certain amount of time and i usually wake up to a computer that was in standby or hiber (i guess) whatever it is i would have to log back in the next am.  this am the computer was on already. 

the only thing i can think is something musty have been running all night like the new software for the aircard i got but i am not sure?

Ah…yeah, that could be it too. For instance, if I’m running an audio app the system will never standby or hibernate unless the low battery warning hits. Otherwise it will stay on. So, that could have been it…

Also some device drivers may not fully support hibernation features and keep the system from successfully initiating it. You can check the event viewer to see if a device drive refused to go into a low power state.

the aircard was it.  i exited out of the aircard software today and went away from the computer for 25mins and bang it was in stanby mode.

also one more quick question:  if i leave say wmp open all night (not playing) but the app being open.  will that not let the computer go into standby as well.

It should be ok with WMP open…as long as it’s not playing. I think the system knows that if a particular process is active then it will keep from going into low power mode.

Glad everything is working out…yeah, pesky device drivers can spoil all the fun of standby and hibernate sometimes. Bad bad manufacturers and their non-WHQL certified drivers. Shame on them!  :D

hahaha!  yup yup!  i have a love hate relationship with my computer because i know enough to know when things are working but not enough to know how to get them working.

I am thinking about getting tha AirCard too… is it great hows the speed s and how are the plans ... is it really 29.99 for unlimited data and does that include the hotspots ..?

how much was the card ... I already have a tmobile account with 2 other cell phones,

i pay 50/mo for gprs and hotspots all unlimited.  the hotspots speed are lightening fast and the aircard speeds really vary from place to place.
