It’s hard to judge a display PC…I didn’t like the TR when it was on display either. I am used to the center mouse as most of my notebooks were like that…one advantage (there are several disadvantages) is that you cannot hit the mouse by mistake and erase an entire line of text :o
What seemed slow, the screen or the notebook?
I’ve said it before though, I don’t think this notebook is for everyone…
I’d have to slightly disagree. The X505 is a marvel of engineering. I think people think it “feels” flimsy or toy-like because it’s so light they’re not used to it.
The keyboard is a little awkward since it’s now at the front meaning you don’t have the wrist rest most people are accustomed to. I’m pretty sure one can adjust.
The trackpoint thing (while scientifically proven to be less efficient than a trackpad) is usable and one gets used to it. I used one for years and was fine although I’m much more efficient with a trackpad. Of course, i have other friends who swear by the eraser head.
I’d have to say you’re exaggerating if you say it’s the most ugly notebook you’ve ever seen. I would dare say any of those larger DTR notebooks are more ugly. And it shouldn’t seem slow since it has the exact same guts as the TR. Same processor speed, same memory, same hard disk speed, and same graphics processing.
It’s a niche machine, Chris. Eric is just looking to the future; take a note or two, voice annotate a few document changes, log some billable hours and check the calendar to see who he’s golfing with that afternoon.
[quote author=“TruthSeeker”]Uh, golfing wasn’t on his addiction list. However, he may have to take it up if he wants to schmooze with the upper class of lawyers.

I do golf actually, but I am not addicted to it…it’s a once a week activity.

The roof took some more damage. We had some water intrusion. Insurance covers. Looks like I’m buying a new house anyways. I am upgrading in the same neighborhood. Better house. S-Tile roof and a sweet pool for the kiddies. I don’t know if I am addicted to spending money like Erik is, but this house was too good to pass up. I got it for about 30-40k under value in a very strong sellers market. I am certainly over budget now on upgrading gadgets at the end of the year. I’ll probably just update my phone to a Nokia 6230. Its a must have on my priority list!

Thank you for the concern, my friend.
Things have a way of working out…the storm got you into a new home. Good luck with the new house, take lots of pictures! I’m sure the kids will enjoy the pool…and you’ll hate every minute of it (cleaning it is a PITA).
