I had a bad experienced with my previous HP Laptop. My screen started to worn out after 1 year. Although I used it maybe 6 to 8 hrs a day, I thought 1 Year was little too early.
So how long do you think the TR screen will last? And when do you think the screen will start worning out?

I have a 7 year old laptop that I use daily and the screen still works fine. It’s not a sony…but still. On of my Sony TVs is over 16 years old and hasn’t missed a beat…

yeah, that’s really weird, but a relief that at least Sony is not like that. So far, I have seen HP and Compaq’s Notebook get worned out. The screen becomes little dark, and also lose little bit of color.

LCD screens last a long time, though the backlight wears out over the years. I have an old Mac laptop that I’ve been using since 1999 and the backlight has lost about a quarter of its brightness and looks a little yellowish. Not too bad considering all the use I put into it. I have a VAIO from 2000 that still looks great as well, something else will probably fail before the screen does.

i’d worry about the battery rather than the display. :D

btw do you guys think we’ll still be able to buy “new” battery for the tr2 after 2-3 yrs?

You know what? I think you can get the battery in 1~2 years for sure. Why? Because it’ll take a while for Tr3 to market in U.S. Maybe Tr3 will go up to Tr4, while the battery is still the same size.

Man.. I hope that Xbrite Screen lasts at least 2 to 3 years.

How much do you guys think we can sell this Laptop in 2 years with Mint Condition?

200 pounds

No really, I once got a Thinkpad in 1999, new price around 10k German marks (3000 pounds) and by the time I sold it in fall 2001 I got 200 pounds for it and I considered that a deal!

If you want something that depreciates faaaast and costs you lots of money, get a sports car. If you want something that depreciates even faster, get a laptop… it’s always been like that. Computers age in dog years, and that applies to our cute liitle machines too…

3 years from now it’s gonna be “hmmm… it doesn’t have 16 gig of ram or a 200 gig harddisk.. it’s one of those old CD drives where every computer now comes with a 32x DVD burner.. the network card won’t do gigabit ethernet.. and the wifi is hopelessly outdated now that even all the hotspots use 100 mbit 802.11n… I’ll give you 200 quid for it.” Listen to my words!

I’ll be happy with just $1000 after 2 years. What do you guys think?
Do you think we can sell it for 1k?
