does anyone still know the procedure on how to install the widcomm driver stack and correct license? because all the information in jon’s website is already removed.

i tried to install the widcomm driver but after that, i just get a blue and red logo on my system tray. there is a BLUETOOTH CONFIGURATION in control panel and MY BLUETOOTH PLACES in my computer but i can’t open it. when i check in the device manager i can see that it is using the widcomm unsignd driver and not ms. but when i try to run the bluetooth it says “your bluetooth software license does not include use with this bluetooth device” and then it opens a window asking for a license file. I have already edited the btwusb.onf file for the vid/pid but still won’t work

i am using a vaio tr2 with internal bluetooth.

Widcomm Driver Installation
As the lemmings used to say: Lets Go!
1. Disconnect your bluetooth USB Adapter
2. Disconnect from the Internet. To do this you may have to unplug your modem or network card
3. Remove any previous bluetooth software and drivers thoroughly. Reboot if necessary
4. Download the IBM Widcomm Bluetooth USB Drivers (Widcomm version 1.4.3.4) from here

5. Run the bthwxp1o.exe file to extract the driver files.
6. Click next, accept the license agreement, click next twice more and finally click finish
7. Download my patched files package from here [541kb]
8. Run the btfiles.exe file to extract my patched files
9. Run from C:\Drivers\WIN\Patch\BTRegFix.reg [optional advanced info]
10. Run C:\Drivers\WIN\BDCACT\Setup.exe to start the driver installation
11. Click next, accept the license terms, next, next, install
12. When you are prompted with the “Driver Signiature Notice” click ok
13. When you get the error “Bluetooth device not found” click “cancel”
14. Click Finish to complete setup
15. You now need to end the “BTTray.exe” process and the “btwins.exe” process so you can
replace some of the files that were installed, the best way to do this depends on which version
of Windows you are using…
m Windows XP / 2003: Click on “Start” and “Run” and type taskkill /f /im bttray.exe /t
and repeat but type taskkill /f /im btwdins.exe /t
m Windows NT / 2000: Press Ctrl-Alt-Del once and select “Task Manager”, Open the
Processes tab, End the “BTTray.exe” Process, End the “btwdins.exe” process, and
Close Task Manager
m Windows 9x and ME: You will need to download a third party utility (for example
WinTask 9x/NT) and use it to end the “BTTray.exe” process and the “btwdins.exe”
process
16. Open c:\windows\system32 or c:\winnt\system32
17. Rename the file wbtapi.dll to wbtapi.old [optional advanced info]
18. Use the 3 pre-patched files from C:\Drivers\WIN\Patch\ to over-write the following files that
have been installed [optional advanced info]
1. C:\Program Files\IBM\Bluetooth Software\BTTray.exe
2. C:\Program Files\IBM\Bluetooth Software\BTStackServer.exe
3. C:\Windows\System32\WBTAPI.DLL (the file you renamed)
19. Reboot your computer. [optional advanced info]
20. Plug your bluetooth device in
21. Windows should find your bluetooth device and install the driver for it.
22. In some cases Windows will not find a driver, click here for help on how to install the driver
23. Look for the bluetooth icon in the system tray and if it is white with a blue background then
you have successfully completed the driver installation
