Citing a rise in spam abuse, Microsoft Corp.‘s MSN division has ended free access to its Hotmail Web-based e-mail service through the Outlook and Outlook Express clients.
Hotmail users now will have to sign up for one of two MSN Hotmail subscriptions to gain Outlook accessâ€â€Âeither MSN Hotmail Plus for $19.95 a year or MSN Premium for $99.95 a year, Richardson said.

Well, I know I will be paying the $20 a year…I live through Hotmail and i’ll be damned if I use their browser based e-mail…
Well that’s just a little annoying
To be honest I’ve never liked using HTTP accounts through outlook as it slows everything up, but as you can’t get hotmails on POP there was no other choice…..
ARGHHHHHH bad day getting worse
[quote author=“linc”][quote author=“Anonymous”]shit, i have been using my outlook to receive my hotmail email, now i have to pay? damn msn!
nothing is free..everything has a cost..why should msn provide you with free access via outlook?
‘Cause they’ve been doing it for years. Personally, I always knew this day would happen…they have us locked into an account that we have established for years…but $20 a year is ok by me, also 2GB of space…so for a bit over $1 a month…I’ll manage.
same here.. they want people to get comfortable with the layout/interace of their “free” serices so eventually people would actually pay to maintain the serices. i don’t expect gmail to stay “free” forever as well..

I finally got a response from one of my 2 canceled G-Mail accounts:
The invitation you received was not valid and we have closed the account.
We regret that we cannot issue you another invitation. We apologize for
the inconvenience.
If you acquired this invitation through a third-party website, you may
want to file a complaint with the site or take advantage of any buyer
protection programs it may offer.
Um, ok. The 2 people that sent invitations still have their account active…oh well.
[quote author=“invisiblefly”]i’m currently use hotmail through outlook also. When will this starts?
as of Monday, news users wanting to make use of WebDAV will have to pay for the service, said Brooke Richardson, product manager for MSN’s communications services.

I think thats a typo, I think they mean ‘new’ users, not ‘news’ users. If this is the case then all new accounts are stuck and they will work backwards in time and start disabling accounts…those who have had hotmail accounts for years might not be effected so quickly.
I have heard that hotmail is going to extend the 2mb free account.. is it true or is it some BS internet rumor. If true, any idea of when they are goign to to so. Because the 2mb is a pain in the neck!!!
Other question, do you guys know where i can get a 1giga gmail account because i dont see anywhere to sign up one
tks

Its completely true. They are going to 250 MB I believe. They are upgrading in time order…the first to register goes first…if you have a newer account (within a year) it may be awhile.
1. Most hotmail users that check e-mail via Outlook have been experiencing problems in the past 24 hours…sometimes it will connect, other times it wont. This is normal.
2. New users as of Monday will not be able to use Outlook.
3. They will start from the newest accounts and work backwards to disable the outlook feature from each account - no known time limit is set when all acounts will be inactive.
4. At the same time they are in the process of upgrading the storage space on all accounts starting with the oldest and working towards the newest.

So…in a sense only the people somewhere in the middle will have both of these things happen to them within a short time frame.
