This place is a far cry from when I used to hang out on the comp.os.*.advocacy newsgroups. I still remember that Mac loon :Derek Currie. Who’d have though I’d ever get nostalgic for operating system flamewars?

Truth: Unless you really have have issues to back-and-forth about, good forums become social and bad ones break down into tribal warfare . Most of the other forums I’m involved in (music, politics) have natural issues that come up because new records get released and new political issues are raised in the course of the political cycle. Notice that it’s getting a lot more social around here now that the Sony product cycle is ebbing. I would guess that a religious message board would get pretty stale without new issues. Bibles aren’t exactly released on a schedule. :mrgreen:

Focus helps. Some of the off-the-wall is certainly fun and I enjoy the general discussions of future/past tech along with the friendly banter. My primary interest is still the TR, what’s new, what works, what doesn’t and how to..  and I don’t mind a coupon or a good deal.
