I found this pretty exciting news. Seagate is going to release 2.5GB and 5GB CF Type II Hard Disks. They have similar specs to the Hitachi/IBM ones including some sort of buffer to keep data safe from vibrations.

I do hope if forces Hitachi to lower their artificially high prices for their products. Also, it just adds another “real” player on the market. There is Cornice but they don’t sell their products as retail products. There’s also Magicstor which have great prices but shoddy workmanship. They had a nice idea but it’s too bad their products lose data and fail pretty quickly.

Too bad Iomega dropped their MD lineup…even though they were re-badged IBMs…sometimes you could find them really cheap.

Does anyone own or know anything about this new Seagate Pocket Hard Drive. I just found one of the 2.5 GB versions at a local Best Buy for $149.95 and the 5 GB version for $199.95. It looks like a normal sized yo-yo and the USB cable wraps into the case.

I was looking for a USB thumb drive and happened across this one. A 1 GB Lexar was priced the same as the 2.5 GB version, but included a $30 rebate. Even at that, it makes the Seagate very price competitive.

I Googled around for some comparison information, but it’s apparently too new. Here’s a link to Tom’s Hardware (no relation)...
