I have decided that 802.11b is simply not fast enough.

I found 2 Mini PCI cards that I think will work in my TR2.

#1 Netegriti 802.11a & 802.11b & 802.11g : $99 + $15 s/h

#2 802.11b & 802.11g: $59 + $10 s/h

I am 99% positive that I will never use ‘A’, but is it worth the extra money just to have it in case?

Save the money, the 802.11g standard has a lot of momentum behind it now that a finalized spec is out. The chances you would run into a 802.11a environment are pretty remote, and as long as you have the 802.11b compatibility on the card, you’re covered for both the present and the future. Unless of course you want to use an 802.11a access point at home, you would get no interference on the 2.4GHz band and greater range using 802.11a. If you use it outside of the home a lot, you probably won’t need 802.11a.

Whatever you decide to do…make sure that the miniPCI cards that you buy are Type IIIB (or 3B) cards otherwise they won’t fit inside the TR. Be sure to ask the vendor this question before you buy…and if they don’t know then you should steer clear.

#2 uses a IIIA setup, I guess my options are limited. It’s a shame too, I really have no use for the A and would loved to have saved $35…
