now, this may concern only to those people living in Germany (like me) or maybe to all europeans.
Few days ago, I was in a Sony VAIO Competence Center in Munich to play around with the TR5MP (I don’t have one yet, but soon it’ll be mine ).
Now, the guy from the competence center told me about the new upcoming T series. I said that I know the T series, but I wouldn’t be very interested, since I actually think the looks of the TR series is much better.
He seconded that, but added that the arrival of the T series may indeed be beneficial for me anyway. He claimed that the T series will actually have a lower price than the current price of the TR series. And, in turn, the TR series will drop prices below the prices of the T series. So not only will the T series come out cheaper than the TR series are now, the TR will be even cheaper then.
That’s why I don’t have my TR5MP yet, I’m waiting for that price drop.
On a different note, while I wasn’t looking, he passed me a X505 into my hands, just to see how surprised I would be. I was very surprised, and very impressed. We chatted almost half an hour about how awesome that X505 thing is but I wasn’t really interested in buying one anyway. Besides of its incredible size and weight it doesn’t offer enough for me, at the price of 3000EUR (TR5MP with bluetooth, 54MBit WLAN etc. is currently 2400EUR in Germany, although you can already get far below that).
However, the X505 really must be the coolest, most stylish notebook ever made by anyone.
And welcome to the forum. I agree with you and that I like the TR more than the T series. Even that I haven’t actually seen a Tseries up close. Neither have I seen a x505.
I can garantee one thin that you will love your TR> I have loved mine since Febuary. And fell in love the first time I saw one at Comp USA.
My friend and I were conversing on the phone. And he was reminding me the first time I held it in Comp USA. That I held it like I had owned it forever.
I am a long time lover of the picturebooks. But I think sony out did there selves for this model. I am sad to see members are guest from this forum trading up to the S.
When I first got on this forum in June. I was amazed with all this owners doing there work on these TR>s. I didn’t think they would want too. But, they did and impressed I was.

Oh, you just have to see the X505 up close. And you have to hold it. You just won’t believe it. Photos are nothing for this masterpiece.

Awww, please stop, I have to wait at least 2 months till I can get my TR and you’re not making it easier No, just kidding. I think I’ll really love it, yeah.

I really don’t like the S series at all. They don’t look special at all.

Well, now you have a software developer
That said, it’s clear that that baby will only run Linux for me.
[quote author=“FrodoID”]That said, it’s clear that that baby will only run Linux for me.
Finally, another Linux user. You’ve got to tell me how it goes with Linux… I tried on my TR but quickly gave up. Now I’m trying out Fedora on my Sssssss *awkward silence* ( I like it ok… ) I was just having to many problems with SUSE which a couple of ears ago was my first and favorite. Loved the included k-Pov and PovRay; it came invery useful for my science fair at school… and impressed my teacher. 8)
The thing I’m having the most problems with is the widescreen resolution. Can’t find anything on extending it to 1280x800, I found something last week or so about changing it to 1280x768, but it is a little useless now without my TR. Also I have been having SOoo many problems with getting wireless to work… it basically never has… and if I am going to become a day-to-day user of Linux… I HAVE to have my wireless. I want to become a full-time Linux user.
 Why
Nobody can monopolize the PC software industry except for me…
No… Actually just sort of a lot of different reasons. I don’t like the way that Windows is becoming so unefficent with the hardware that it is provided with. I don’t see why it needs so much “advanced” hardware compared to Linux. True Linux doesn’t always seem like it has all the bells and whistles that Windows has… but that is because it is made by programmers in their spare time. They aren’t concerned about little things like how the dock looks like. But, it does surprise me that there hasn’t been more improvement in the simplification of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Yes, they can be done, but it takes a software engineer to make it work perfect. Overall, I would even say that it sort of contradics my future intent…make an O/S based on a Linux kernel that basically we be more stable and popular that it monopolizes Microsoft and the Windows line. But then I wake up..
Don’t try and debate about the gaps inbetween my argument because the only reason I’m not wasting more time arguing over this topic is because either way, we will not be pursuaded by any means that the other is in fact better and I have a lot of other things that I really need to get done. So lets drop the Linux vs. Microsoft debate between all parties and just keep the Flash one open for a little bit of fun now and then.

You’re just tweaked because Apple beat you at your own game.
Yes, I am also not arguing about that topic, I had that to many.
In my case, please accept that in my job, Linux is a primary requirement. And I couldn’t live otherwise, I’m using only Linux for several *years* on all my workstations and notebooks (also on my Sony VAIO N505X when it was still fresh ).
On those very rare occasions (not even once a month) where I have to run windows I am running a vmware.
I’m not one of those “leet freaks”. I may be geekish for my obsession with Sony stuff, but my motivations to use Linux are pure technical.
Well, if many else do, it may become necessary
Otherwise if it’s just Eric who buys an X505, he would be a bit lonely in the new forums
But like I know you guys others will follow. I am struggling myself whether to purchase one. But that would have to be additionally to the TR5, and two brand new VAIO from the “oh so stylish!” class would be just insane
Um, i doubt Erik will be lonely. After you read his review a whole bunch of you will go out and join him! Besides, I’m sure Erik will attract a lot of X505ers once he starts posting.
If enough of you guys buy it…I will add it to the forums.
I played with it at the Sony Style store. It’s neat but I guess I’m a sucker for the XBrite screen. I would only consider the X505 if they added the XBrite to it. When I look at it…it just seems dull to me. I spend a lot of time in front of my laptop screen so it really makes a difference to me.
I’m also not too fond of the “nipple” trackpoint.
Still, the feel of the system is pretty nice and it should turn some heads. If people want a usable ultralight and want to save money then there’s always the Sharp MM20…the latest one that is…it’s also very very light.
