After exactly one year (hello expired warranty!) my NC-11 have died. There is a loud crackling sound when the cable is moved, making it anything but a noise-free experience.

I only know of the Sony noise cancelling headphones. Are there any others worth looking at? I mean something in an earphone/earbud style, not a full set of headphones that covers the ears and has a band and all that.

Since I will be in Japan in 3 days, I can pick them up pretty cheap, too!

the MDR-EX71SL’s are pretty nice.

Basically the same design too—but they’re not noise cancelling, which is a must. Perhaps that wasn’t clear in my post, but I am looking for alternatives that are also noise cancelling…

well..what price range are you looking at?

Any price. I know what’s expecting me, even the NC-11’s are not cheap. But I just need another pair, so I have to get something. Anything goes, as long as they are earbud style and not full headphones with a band and such.

if it doesn’t have to be sony.. i would consider the etymotic er6i . they seem to match the ipod/tr quite well.

Interesting, I already have some of their products (ER20 and ER15)!

Not exactly noise-cancelling, but perhaps just as good. Any other kinds on the market?

get the mdr-51xl and put on a pair of ear muffs.  the double isolation… is awesome. 

too bad i gave those headphoens to my sister =/  they were good.

That would be cool, but I’m having trouble finding earmuffs with a SONY logo!

i guess my logic isn’t the most fashionable thing.

fortunately this combination saved me from going deaf on an ATV airplane flight.  good lord those planes are freakin loud.

as for a regular jumbo jet… the silence is nice
