hi again~.~ I want to know what refurbished mean… is it good to buy refurbished TRs? are they good as new or someone Customized it? give me some info about this?

basically is it safe to buy refurbished TR notebook?

Definition of “Refubished”:
Refurbished products are new computer equipment that went through the cracks of manufacturers’ quality control department, during their initial testing.  Thus when purchased, the product was found not operational.

When returned to the manufacturer, these machines are required by law to pass through vigorous tests in order to be sold again as a refurbished product. After being thoroughly tested and certified by the manufacturer, these products are packaged with the same accessories and manuals as the original unit.

Well, I received a Refurbished package today, and everything looks fine for now. I’m gonna do some hardcore experiments tomorrow on my Labtop; I just want to make sure that i’m getting what’s worth. I paid $2,200 for TR2AP3 on line, and I don’t want to get a messed up laptop for nothing.

Test so far:
Screen: (Dead or missing pixels)
I found 1 little dead pixel on the left of my screen, but I hardly noticed it. Very common thing in Laptops. I had the same experience with my previews brand new HP Laptop. It doesn’t bother me. (very… little dot)

CDRw and DVD:
Runs fine; very quiet when its running, but it heats up the comp. pretty quick, which is totally normal for any portable laptops.

It depends on the source. The whole refurbished thing came out when Gateway 2000 (Just Gateway now) used refurbished parts in repairing PCs and even in some “new PCs”. There was this lawsuit and the term refurbished came out.

There are several ways in which a company gets to re-sell refurbs…

1. Customer Return
2. Floor Display
3. Didn’t pass quality control
4. Etc..

The dispay machines usually take a beating…customer returns would usually be within a month so it is most likely in new condition.

If its coming from Overstock + others like it your case might not be in new shape. I’ve heard of people getting products with people’s names Sharpied on it…or even little stickers like Aliens or Rainbows that people put all over their electronics. Usually their policy is the item will work within manufacture specs but they will not promise the casing is in perfect shape…ie scratches, marks, or stickers.

I think you have a better shot buying Sony Refurb as they can easily swap a case if its in bad shape.

Before buying a refurb I would check their return policy…if its sold AS-IS i’d be a bit afraid. Otherwise, it’s worth the shot, you can save almost 50% going this route.

As I said in a different thread, I received a refurbished TR2AP3 from pcconnection for $1832 (plus delivery and UK taxes). No scratches or stickers. In fact no defects that I can see. Screen looks fine but I haven’t tried any definitive tests on it.
