Ok, I started a forum before about doing a meeting in person. And by pretty much majority and logic.
I think we all can agree with a brady bunch web cam deal. We can call it are motion eye meeting.
I vote for who should operate and set it up. It was my Idea so I am going to call people out who I think would make good canidates.
If you think of someone please elect.
GrOOvy- pick the date and time
Erick-find out what type of software and give us a link to download
linc-take a head count and see how many we can fit at once.
I am just going to try to put everything together. Go ahead and post on here with your ideas. Or pm me if you have anything else or you want to participate. Again these were individuals I think might want to help out and get this orgainized.
Also Rahul- if you can think of anything I’[ve missed….. would be kewl…
[quote author=“tifosiv122”]Software is going to be the issue. I know iVisit has group Cam, but its free for limited use and after they want to charge, not sure the specifics…
Erik
Thanks Erik! If anyone wants to check into this service to see how it works. Cough Raul Cough Linc 8)
can always try camfrog .. i used it a few times.. the video and audio quality is acceptable.. i think in order for you to regulate the participants to just tr world forum members & to see more than one person at a time..you are required to “upgrade” and pay a fee..plus it doesn’t specify the maximum amount users allowed at a time…
Yeah, software is a big issue here. Another thought that might be interesting is creating a web page that auto refreshes every 5 seconds (or more). Everyone with webcams could set their motioneye or whatever to do still captures every 3-5 seconds and upload the picture to a server (I could open up the SPC server for this).
I would just have everyone name their file their login name. For example,
The page would then display everyone in a pseudo-group cam kind of environment updating every couple of seconds giving you time to make paper signs that say “hi [insert favorite TR World member]”.
That’s the quick and dirty way of doing it and assumes everyone actually puts their name down correctly. We don’t want another “Rahul” incident…
Ok, I’ll see if I can whip something up by this weekend. It may be rudimentary at first depending on how much time I have. I haven’t figured out how I want to order the pictures (i.e. by last post date, name, last post + name, etc.)
Also, there will have to be some sort of cap on resolution otherwise the page will be gigantic depending on how many people participate.
Also, I just realized the crazy bandwidth requirements of this if I host all the pictures. I’m not sure if I can host it here directly since traffic is increasing daily to a point where I’m going to need to upgrade my plan again by the end of the year.
Hm..as long as I don’t have to spend $$$ to buy software for this. But on another note, will it just be a mass Video IM so to speak? We’ve got to come up with a way to coordinate speeches and/or talking. Because 40 people signed on to VideoIM at the same time = chaos and bedlam.
Well, webcam still photo mode is the only way we’ll get a mass amount of people on. And it won’t cost anything since your TR has this functionality built-in unless you’ve done a clean install and didn’t get your MotionEye working or it’s associated software.
Got it working, but i’m thinking about the logistics. If we have 40+ people on VideoIM running around yelling, nothing’ll be done. Howabout we create a program for it? Like, new tech reviews by xxx and hardly seen tr features by xxx and so on. That way there’s some semblence of order. Unless you had something else in mind…?

Even if you did MS has a free app as part of powertoys that does it.
