I just received my enhanced battery and it’s pretty nice. It adds a little heft but it actually makes my TR1 feel more solid. Perhaps I wasn’t used to the light weight of the 3.06 lbs compared to my old 3.4 lbs Fujitsu P2120. I often carried the enhanced battery on that machine which brought it closer to 4lbs. The TR1 + enhanced battery feels a tad bit lighter than my old Fujitsu P2120 + enhanced battery.

One thing I’ve noticed so far is that it fits better than the regular battery. It fits very snug and doesn’t rattle when installed. Very solid.

It also raises the back of the notebook a little more off the table and gives a slight slant to the keyboard making it a little easier to type on.

I’ll have to run tests to see how long it lasts…so far, it’s pretty impressive. It’s nice when I see the battery life jump to 9-10 hrs (although on very low brightness). Realistic battery life seems to be 6-7 (at 5/6 brightness setting) hours which is simply amazing as it’s essentially a full day of work. I’ll have numbers soon once I figure out a good way to test the battery realistically.

gr00vy0ne, are you planning on doing a full write-up on this? Pictures would be really great, I’m debating between getting this and the standard battery with the 20% off Sony accessories coupon.

Yes, definitely. I’m in the process of testing the actual performance of the battery which might take a little time but expect it soon. I got mine for $275 at page computer which is cheaper than the list price of the standard battery so it was a great deal!

I definitely do not regret buying it as I use it all the time and it lasts for such a long time. It’s especially good for when you’re on the road or if you want to spend a long time at the coffee shop. If you need more than 3-4 hours of mobile usage then it’s worth getting. Otherwise the standard battery is good enough. The extended battery is also good for long flights as it will allow you to watch a full movie and still have enough power to do other things for a couple of hours.

I’m still trying to figure out a good set of tests to put the notebook through in order to really point out how the TR works with standard and extended batteries.

how much bigger does it make the computer?  i am just hoping it will still fit in my sleeve case that i bought from waterfield designs.  there is still a little room in the case to add maybe a couple of inches.  how many inches does it add?

After several discussions with Gary (the owner of Waterfield), the TR will not fit in the TR-sized waterfield bag with the extended battery. It might go in but then the flap won’t go down all the way. We figured the SR-sized bag will fit the TR with extended battery with a little extra room to spare. The battery extends the back of the system about 7/8” of an inch. Additionally, it makes the TR a little higher in the back (~1/4”). I’ll post pix tomorrow or so.

the extended battery is a MUST!!  it makes the computer feel so solid i love it.  and the best news is it fits in the sfbags.com sleeve with the battery on perfectly.

Dang! That was a fast order!

Yeah, it’s weird how the extended battery makes the TR seem more solid. I think it’s more due to the fact that the default weight is so light to begin with. When I let people pick it up they’re so surprised that it’s so frickin’ light…and that’s with the extended battery. When I swap batteries and let them try the standard then they’re blown away.

I’m glad to hear that it fits in the TR Waterfield bag. Gary and I had discussed it and he didn’t think it would fit. I didn’t want to order one if it didn’t fit and I wasn’t crazy about buying the SR-sized bag. It’s good to know that it can fit and I may have to finally place my order to get one of those bags.
