Does external usb devices like usb sound card takes a lot of cpu power?
or it helps windows to process sound/multimedia and run faster?

Almost all USB devices require the CPU for help whether it be direct processing or simply for the transfer of data. So, it’s more likely to burden your CPU than help it.

A lot of USB sound devices use the CPU to process the sound.
