[quote author=“dbs”]I really don’t see my TR as a collectable.
Yes, we are a diverse group and it’s a pity to lose a machine that, out of the box, meets so many different needs. I await the day when the webcam hater finds himself wanting to videochat with a distant loved one or the don’t-need-no-bluetooth user discovers how cool it would be to jump on the net via his cellphone. Extrapolate the minimalist bs and let’s get rid of the ethernet and modem ports. After all, who needs ‘em, we’ve got wireless… except when we don’t have wireless.
ethernet should still stay since if I’m using the TR at a desk and I have the option of using ethernet I’d definitely prefer it to wireless especially if I’m downloading a lot of data. I have a lot of use for the webcam since that way my parents in India can atleast see me. Trust me without their 2 sons both of whom are in USA the webcam alongwith instant messenger is the best thing around.
[quote author=“gr00vy0ne”]Ah…nice catch there. Oddly enough, there’s no mention about it on the JDM models. Could it be that the US models will get Bluetooth and the JDM ones won’t?
That would mean hell froze over…the winter is supposed to be real bad in MI…I don’t want it to get any colder…
If you really really look at the high-res pictures - the form factor of T series is NOT pretty!!! Looks kinda bulky and edgy! VAIO design group was smoking something when they were creating it….sad….in comparison with curvy Z and V or TR series.

[quote author=“Mighty Matt”]you can’t get rid of the ethernet port yet… the modem yes, but not the ethernet.
Until wireless catches up, which I doubt it ever will, then I’m still going to want to hook the TR up to my desktop to copy films/music over.
Now stop pointing out these new laptops which I can’t even pretend to afford :(
Lol…I feel the same way… can’t afford them
And I use my ethernet and modem ports when I am away and unable to get wireless. Don’t touch them :x (jk)
I just realized that the T will have a “DJ Strip” and hardware volume +/- buttons when I looked at that high-res pic  Now I really want it it…
Haven’t used a modem in years…if I can’t get WiFi or Ethernet, I pull out my Cell, it might be slower (well my Treo gets 148Kbps), but I don’t feel as ancient, lol.
VAIOfreak:The design isnt exactly edgy… it is simply taking after the looks of the S.
tifosiv: Unfortuantely I don’t have the money to afford paying $30 a month for a T-Mobile internet plan… and, remember, adults (in other words people who have jobs and therefore earn money) aren’t the only ones that are into technology.

Erik
thats right, either wifi or gprs / umts due to t-mobile pcmcia card
referring this new vaio model, nahh, still fancy the x505 fibre model
I do like some fetures on this new series. But, come on my wife just bought this for me less than six months ago.
I am not about to get all excited and sell my TR on ebay to get a test model T without out all the kinks run out.
I can’t believe they go through models so quickly. One year!!!! That’s insane. I can’t believe some people upgrade every year. For what an extra 100-200mhz
I would of took an older picture book at 700-800mhz before my wife surprised me and bought the TR.
In my eyes comparing the look of the two. If you weren’t a geek like us you probably couldn’t even tell which one was the newest model, just by looking at it.
And for all the people saying the color “white” is for girls give me a break. The TR doesn’t look like a girl machine. It looks like an expensive toy for a rich man.
And for the guy on this thread said for kids. OK Like you would buy or give your kid a $2000-$3000 notebook. ANd if you are, get a life and go back to you p-series forums, because knocking on us in not going to make us like you anymore.
to me, this is a “mature” TR. i’ve always seen the TR as a Apple/hipster college kid type notebook. mainly a notebook for women or kids, not grown men. and the white is just incredibly cheesey. there was no way i could have taken a notebook like that into a upscale business meeting, which is practically all IBM’s, imagine how ridiculous i would of looked pulling out a “toy” like the TR. the looks of the TR was 1 of the main reasons i went for the P5000 (plus i just felt it was an overall better notebook). it’s coming up on upgrade time, i’ll be checking out this and the new P7000.

Looking at the T pics… that tiny space bar really sucks. Otherwise, I could get used to it - I don’t find it ugly. And it’s nice that it’s even thinner yet retains the optical drive. But pity about losing the webcam.
Still, I am surprised that the TR only lasted a year! I bought mine in early summer 2003!
Looking at the pics, it looks like the changed the pitch of the keys, which is a good thing for people that had a hard time typing on the TR.
I like the look of the TR keys much better, hard to explain what I like, it justs looks like a more refinded keyboard. And the orginal black keys in 99% of the keyboard have the plain black.
I also was in an apple store and compared there 12” powerbook models. And I love my TR so much more.
The used this cheap looking silver on there keys and kept the stardard pitch.
I also think the T looks like it already has the extended battery on it. With that bulge in the back. I am not sure what this is. But I am wondering if thats how they made it a little thinner.

I also don’t think its a bad design. But why did they pick only to do up the TR in white and have a go with it for only a year. I wonder if they hurt in sells with the TR?
I wonder if grOOvy is going to pick one up when the arrive in the U.S. I would love to see him do one. I know he just bought the “S” though and probably won’t be in the market to do so.

Yeah, but add up the price of a dial-up account + hotel bills for the call (even if its local most charge) and you might as well give it to your cell phone provider.
