As for Apple…to be honest, the G5 concept blew me away, because of its simplicity, but then I Realized,  when you buy an Apple G5 or whatever, you can’t really customize the thing.  It’s the same glossy white 1000x other people have.  And, after awhile, it grates on your nerves, that yes, yours is nice, but so is everybody elses.  And after thinking about the G5 for awhile, there are so many fundamental design flaws in it.
  *) The lack of height customization
  *) the Cable/cord jack placements
  *) Lack of expandibility
  *) Can only use custom components/no upgrade/upgrades expensive

But still, for the few die-hard Appleheads out there, good luck. I hope you like buying a lovely white obsolete brick.  I’ll be buying an iPod.  8)

i am a dedicated Mac fan. I am currently sitting on a G4 tower, a B&W G3 and a beige G3 and just set my father-in-law up with a G3 iMac for web surfing (secure web-surfing).

I love the G4 cube and if the damn things would come down in price i would own one - No other, and i state again: No other computer has kept it’s avlue like the G4 Cube. They still sell for a thousand bucks. Show me any other 6 year old computer still selling second hand for a thousand bucks!

I liked the all in one iMac, I didn’t fall hard for the ET looking second gen ones, but i appreciate the whole neck-out guts of the designers to actually take such a design chance. And they are still selling for heaps as well.

But this new ‘Joke” of an imac. A screen. Big deal. Some tweakers are actually quoting the press releases and talking about art and such rubbish. What design goes into a screen for God’s sake. A pizza box is right.

well give some dude an award for designinbg a computer that is a flat square.

I’ll keep my cash and try to buy a cube when they come down inprice - or even the 2nd generation ones. But the new one. I wouldn’t pack my pizza in it!

Imagine you have a typical amount of stuff connected…so 2 USB ports used, maybe 1 firewire, one ethernet, and one more for your speakers. That’s 5 cables (not including the power cord) coming off the side of your iMac. So much for the cleanliness of your desktop (which was one of the marketing points of previous iMac designs).

Not that I think it was that smart of a place either… but try and see a little logic… in the back view of the iMac (below) you could easily route the USB, firewire, etc wires through the cable hole and never notice them except from the side.

I have to agree with you that the “sunflower design” looked much nicer and rally shocked me when I first saw it at how they fit everything inside that little base…  I LOVE Apple’s designs.  They are fresh, innovative, and look wierd… But the OS :cry:  WAY to simplistic and ....I dunno… I’ve tried using OS/X (for a weekish) and I couldn’t stand how much it hides from the user.  Forgive me, but in that respect I’m much more of a Linux/Windows dual-booter.  OS/X sucks.  I would however love to get a Mac and convert it to Linux/Windows… but the whole compatibility problem… *sigh* it never ends.

(hypothetical situation) You have just put your hands down and decided to buy the V series…say 2-3 months after it is released… then you hear about the X and decide you will wait to see what that model will sport..etc.  But after you wait another 2-3 months… say Fujitsu revamps their iBiblio series into something really great… but alas it is too expensive so again you wait for the price to go down…..and it happens over and over and over…. :?
