Pretty cool, but I’ll probably stick with my USB drive for now since my Macs have 6-pin FW ports and my PCs have 4-pin ports. Carrying around an adapter would be more hassle and another thing to lose. 

Yeahh… it’s cool but i think USB 2 is still better. It runs at faster rate 480mbps.. firewire only transfer 400 mbps
anyway.. it sounds cooler than usb/ordinary flash drive…

Both FW and USB2 run faster than the memory and memory controllers can go, so any company saying the interface makes a difference is putting their own spin on it! 

Imagine that.  Other old technologies holding ‘flash’ back from its true potential. 8)

In addition to that…and I like to pound this one down everyone’s throat…is USB2 is a dumb interface that requires a lot of CPU attention during transfers. In fact, USB2 won’t work without a host CPU at all.

Firewire is a point to point interface that can act without any host intervention meaning uses little to no CPU resources at all during transfers. So, USB2 requires 20-30% CPU in order to reach the peak “theoretical” 480Mbps. If the system can’t give 20-30% then transfer rates plummet. Firewire does not have this limitation.

Which makes me question the entire rational for this product. FW requires a chipset on the device, while USB is basically dumb. I can easily get Sandisk USB dongles for less than half what these guys are charging for FW.

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out in a few months. If other manufacturers start popping out units, they could end up competitive with USB devices. A note on the prices, they’re MSRP. Nobody pays MSRP except SonyStyle customers.
